What does it feel like to be hypnotised? How will I know I am hypnotised?

When you are in hypnosis you feel very relaxed and at ease as though you are in a comfortable state with your eyes closed. Hypnosis is a natural state that feels similar to that feeling you get just before you fall asleep at night.

Is hypnosis safe?

Hypnosis is a natural state and so it is absolutely safe with the client being in total control. There can be no hypnosis unless the client is willing to participate in their process. It is very important to seek a profession qualified hypnotherapist to make sure they can assist you in meeting your desired goals.

What if I do not come out of hypnosis?

Everyone comes out of hypnosis. Remember that you went into hypnosis willingly. So, just as you decided to go into hypnosis, by the same token, you will decide to come out of it. And even if there was an emergency, like a fire, you would easily become fully aware in an alert and fully awake state.

Will I be under the hypnotherapist’s control? Can I do something against my will?

No, hypnosis is a collaboration between yourself and the hypnotherapist to work together toward your therapeutic outcome. You cannot be made to do anything that goes against your morals or code of ethics or values. In fact, hypnosis is about enhancing your sense of self control, rather than diminishing it.

Can You Make Me Dance Like A Chicken?

A hypnotherapist uses hypnosis purely for therapeutic work. The client's welfare is the sole focus of the hypnosis and the work is geared towards helping the client. Stage hypnosis is a show where people perform acts that are used to entertain an audience.

Will I divulge all my deepest, darkest secrets?

No. Again, being hypnotised does not mean that you will lose control or become unaware of what you are doing or saying. When you are in hypnosis your awareness is actually heightened.

Can Anyone Be Hypnotised?

Everyone can be hypnotised provided that they want to be.

Is there anyone who should not be hypnotised?

There are some individuals who may run some risks if hypnotised such as people who are in an altered state from drugs (prescription or other) or alcohol. People needing prescription drugs must discuss with their doctor to gain their consent or support before adding hypnotherapy to their treatment plan.

How quickly does hypnosis work?

You will feel good straight after a hypnotherapy session. You will come out of trance feeling relaxed, refreshed and alert.

The brain is an organ made up of millions of cells, synapses and neural pathways. Change to these neural pathways occurs during the hypnotherapy session and continues for 24-48 hours afterward.

It is important to begin any “homework” that the hypnotherapist assigns you during this period – don’t leave it for a few days or forget about it. For example, you may be asked to listen to a hypnotherapy CD or mp3 every day for a fortnight or you might have to say an affirmation to yourself several times per day. Start doing this on the day of your session and continue for as long as the hypnotherapist has asked.

Such activities reinforce the suggestions for change that your hypnotherapist made during your session together. The more you can reinforce those suggestions, the quicker you will see your desired changes.
