What is hypnotherapy and how does it work?
Hypnosis, in general, works for almost everyone, and the intensity of hypnosis can vary from person to person.
According to the Mayo Clinic, when you're under hypnosis, your attention is highly focused and you're more responsive to suggestions - including behavioural changes that can help you lose weight, Quit smoking, gain more confidence & motivation, reduce stress and a plethora of many other issues.
Hypnosis for children can assist them with confidence, self esteem building, bed-wetting and relieving exam stress to name just a few
Hypnosis may even succeed where other more conventional methods of treatment have not produced the desired result. When carried out by a trained and qualified hypnotherapist the benefits can be long lasting and in many instance permanent.
Hypnosis is natural and safe, with no harmful side effects and makes use of the bicameral nature of the functioning brain and the conscious / unconscious processes therein. At its simplest level the subconscious mind becomes, through our life experience, the repository of our conditioned experience, while the conscious mind is the waking mind dealing with appraisal and decision making.
In hypnotherapy the critical faculties of the conscious mind are sidestepped (through the hypnotic condition) and new ideas and ‘suggestions’ placed directly into the uncritical subconscious to affect beneficial changes when back in the "waking" state.
Hypnotherapy is the practice of promoting positive thought patterns and evoking a deep state of relaxation that is transferable to everyday life.
Contrary to popular belief, hypnosis is NOT a state of deep sleep. However, it does involve the induction of a deep state of relaxation where you will perceive an enhanced state of awareness, through concentrating entirely on my voice. As the body is released from conscious control during hypnosis, breathing becomes slower and deeper, the pulse rate drops and the metabolic rate falls.
During hypnosis the conscious mind is suppressed and your subconscious mind is revealed. It is at this state that I am able to suggest ideas, concepts and lifestyle adaptations, challenging negative thoughts and encouraging a positive outlook for the future.
Even though you appear to be in a trance during hypnosis, you are not unconscious. You are still aware of your surroundings, and -- despite what many stage performers may claim during an entertaining show -- you cannot be made do to anything against your will.
