David Freeland & colleagues- Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine in Miranda NSW
Servicing area
Miranda and Sydney CBD, NSWFocus areas
I have been caring for people for over 37 years with traditional acupuncture and Chinese medicine, and longer still, with manual treatment. I combine the styles of Chinese traditional schools of acupuncture and the gentle Japanese Meridian Therapy approach to find what suits your individual needs. I often support my acupuncture treatments with tuina - Chinese massage therapy - which I also vary to suit what you respond to. I also prescribe Chinese herbal medicines. I practise at Southpoint Health, Miranda and at CBD Health Sydney, near Wynyard.
1977-80: 4years of private traditional training in a small class under a traditional master of acupuncture, tuina and Chinese martial art;
Then between 1981 and 1985: Another 4 years of formal college training
- the then new 4 year, full time diploma course at the NSW College of Natural Therapies and Traditional Chinese Medicine - the first course in Chinese medicine of such length and depth in Australia, teaching herbal medicine as well as acupuncture in depth. This was the currinculum that formed the basis of the Batchelor degrees later developed at the then University of Western Sydney and Sydney Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine, when it became possible for Chinese medicine to move into the universtiy system.
In 1984, 3 months in China, practising under supervision in a Chinese outpatient clinic in the lovely city of Hangzhou. This was part of the NSW College course.
Special Interests:
For almost 4 decades, I've pursued a special interest in muscle and joint injuries and disorders. Other major professional interests are in women’s health; pregnancy; birth preparation; seniors’ health; post-surgical recovery; post-viral recovery; emotional health; stress. I am happy to be consulted for other areas of health care.
Please note that the benefits of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine within these fields vary from condition to condition and from case to case, so you may want to know more detail once you come for treatment.
George, an AHPRA registered practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), completed his degree at the University of Western Sydney. Driven by his passion for TCM, he journeyed to China for an internship at the Municipal Hospital of Nanjing.
With an innate desire to aid others, George lives by the mantra of "Empower, inspire, and educate." Initially starting in a science program, he shifted gears due to personal health challenges, leading to fatigue and focus difficulties. This prompted him to embrace TCM, a decision that brought him focus, energy, and equilibrium over time. He's captivated by the intricacies of Chinese medicine and its capacity to facilitate self-healing given the right environment.
Continuously seeking ways to foster self-improvement, George endeavours to share his passion. His approach involves not just acupuncture and herbs, but also holistic guidance on lifestyle, mindfulness, and exercise as needed.
Outside of his profession, George finds solace in nature, meditation, further studies in health and wellbeing, and cherished moments with loved ones.
Special interests:
His areas of interests encompass musculoskeletal pain, migraines, fatigue, focus issues, emotional disorders, stress, anxiety, digestive problems, allergies, asthma, and respiratory issues.
Witnessing his patients flourish is George's ultimate fulfillment. Take your first step on your health journey by connecting with George at Southpoint Health today, to see if Chinese medicine is suitable for you and your goals.
About CHINESE MEDICINE
Chinese medicine (CM), sometimes known as TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) includes acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and a unique method of massage therapy, called tuina.
Chinese medicine has been constantly evolving for more than 2000 years in China. It is a holistic approach to treatment that aims to treat you as a whole person at the same time as focussing on the illness or injury you have come for. It can be more appropriate for treatment to be directly aimed at the main issue causing you pain, or it can be more helpful to address overall balance, depending on what's wrong. Chinese medicine can be steered either way.
You can have CM by itself or you can combine it with Western scientific medicine or with any of the other natural therapies. Chinese medicine is versatile and combines well.
- Acupuncture: Acupuncture works by stimulating your body’s own innate self-healing processes to restore your inner balance and promote health. Nothing is injected - it is your body that does the work. Sometimes an acupuncturist may also use local heat to stimulatie acupuncture points. this is called "moxa" or "moxibustion".
- Chinese Herbal Medicine: Medicinal plants are combined to enhance or balance each other so as to meet your individual and specific requirements. Chinese herbal medicine treats your whole being, not just the disease. David Freeland uses powdered extracts that are easy to use - just stir into hot water. Sometimes David prescribes herb formulas in pill form as well. All these products are imported with TGA approval and no endangered species are used in this clinic.
- Tuina (Chinese Massage Therapy): Combines acupressure with deep tissue massage, trigger point release, joint mobilisation, qi gong, meridian stretching and much more to enhance the effects of acupuncture.
- Cupping, Spooning (Guasha), Liniments, Oils and Plasters have been utilised in Chinese medicine for more than 1000 years to disperse congestion, loosen muscles and help to stimulate the flow of blood. Cupping, liniments, fragrant oils and herbal plasters are used with acupuncture or tuina.
