What is Hakomi Experiential Psychotherapy?

Hakomi is a mindfulness-based approach to self-understanding. Much more than a method or set of techniques, Hakomi is a way of looking at the world that is compassionate, mindful, curious, non-invasive, humorous and respectful. Hakomi encourages you study how you meet the world, what kind of world you perceive, what beliefs you hold about yourself and so on. Gaining insight and understanding through your direct experience in this way, usually has a deeper and longer lasting impact than working things out with your mind only.

Mindfulness

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is paying attention to your present moment experience ie: any thoughts, memories, images, feelings, sensations, with an attitude of kindness, acceptance and gentle curiosity. In a mindful state, you will gain a greater awareness of parts of yourself, needs or beliefs than is usually available to you.

The therapeutic relationship

The relationship between the therapist and the client is a co-created partnership. Each person has the wisdom and freedom to choose their own direction. Sometimes we just need assistance to hear ourselves! In offering my skills and experience to help you access this inner wisdom and identify what holds you back, I will be fully present with you on your journey of discovery .

How is this approach holistic?

By embracing the interconnection between all aspects of us, the mental, physical, spiritual and emotional and also the people and environment that surround us. It recognises our natural impulse to unfold towards wholeness and healing, and assists in deepening our connection to and acceptance of ourselves, others and our World.
It is an integrated approach to growth and transformation which assists healing on all levels, allowing you to access and be true to your own Essence.

In which way is it integrative?

Everyone has different needs at different times. By drawing on a range of creative psychotherapeutic approaches we can work with what is most appropriate and helpful for you at any one time and allow you to move in your own way at your own pace.

What you can expect

One-hour sessions in a peaceful environment in which there is authenticity and acceptance, trust and respect, safety and confidentiality and room for humour!

Who can benefit from Psychotherapy/Holistic Counselling?

Most people! Counselling or Therapy is no longer considered only something we do if there is something wrong with us. It is now widely accepted that life is challenging at times and that giving ourselves the opportunity to explore what is going on for us from a new perspective is a responsible step towards beneficial change.
