Holistic Family Health Care - Family Health
Servicing areaNorthern Rivers, NSW
Our family health services cover everything from pre-conception care to teenage acne, and includes mums inevitable menopause and the possibility of the emergence of prostate problems for dad. The following list is by necessity incomplete, but includes some of the more common areas of enquiry.
Pregnancy and Pre-natal care
Pregnancy is a time of great change with increased demands placed upon the mother's body. Commonly encountered issues that I address in my practice are:
- Threatened miscarriage after conceiving
- Morning sickness
- Concerns with Rubella vaccination and exposure
- Back pain and sciatica
- Emotional upheaval
- Venous congestion, varicose veins and haemorrhoids
- High blood pressure
Prior to birth, consultations and treatment focus on herbs and homeopathics to ensure a smooth labor, with home kits being available on request. Information on a range of issues at this point allows for informed choice and a reduction in stress. Issues commonly encountered include:
- Questions around induction, C-sections, episiotomies and pain relief
- Issues of neo natal vaccines such as Vitamin K and Hepatitis B
- Holistic interventions for breach birth and inductions
- Choices around cord clamping and lotus birth
Post-natal and Early Childhood Care
A practitioner familiar with the unique issues faced by mother and child alike in the initial weeks and months following birth can offer great assistance with a wide range of issues. Homeopathy is of particluar benefit at this time due to its safety and ease of administration to new born children and suitability for breast feeding mothers. Issues commonly encountered include:
- Immunisation Options
- Attachment and feeding difficulties
- Sleep irregularities
- Colic and digestive disturbance
- Maternal recovery
- Mastitis and breast care
The challenges and opportunities for assistance in early childhood differ however and range from the commonly encountered ear infections to persistant upper respiratory infections. In addition to these general areas my practice has come to see a significant amount of the following:
- Developmental and behavioural disorders
- Autoimmune conditions
Such conditions, although not uncommon, require the treatment of a trained practitioner who is also experienced with the many possible contributing factors and able to deliver an integrative approach to management and treatment.
Our Fertility Programs
As many as 1:6 couples in Australia are struggle with conceiving a child, with those figures rising sharply over the last 4 decades in both men and women. A range of factors may contribute to fertility issues from simple lifestyle and nutritional imbalances through to environmental toxicity.
I place both partners on individualised programs using both homeopathic medicines and chinese herbs, and where feasible encourage a six week course of acupuncture, with either myself or a local colleague.
Research on Chinese Medicine and Homeopathy's profound effect on fertility continues to affirm them both as powerful tools for enhancing the chances of a successful pregnancy.
With more than 70% of the clients at Holistic Family Health Care being women, the bulk of my professional experience has been in womens health. This has included non-gender specific complaints like depression, weight gain and chronic pain, but has also included hormonally mediated health issues such as:
- Painful periods
- Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
My approach here is an individualised program based upon the unique and inter-connected threads in your life and lifestyle that have brought this condition into being. Treatments always include dietary and lifestyle recommendations, and when appropriate may also involve herbal medicines, acupuncture and homeopathics.
