Waterbirth, Homebirth, Hospital Birth, VBAC, Cesarean Birth- HypnoBirthing works wherever and however you choose to birth. Join our HypnoBirthing classes in Brisbane now. Would you welcome the opportunity to experience birth in a comfortable and joyful manner, would you like to look forward to your birthing with positive anticipation instead of fear? HypnoBirthing® will help you re-discover your natual birth instincts, it will teach you how to stay focused and relaxed allowing for an easier and more pleasant birth experience both for you and your baby. HypnoBirthing® The Mongan Method is an unique method of relaxed, natural childbirth education, enhanced by self-hypnosis techniques. It is a simple, straightforward programme thoughtfully developed over the years to remind mothers of the simplicity of birth itselt. Just as the majority of birthing women do not need interventions and procedures for safe and healthy bith, they do not need a complex set of exercies and scripts to prepare themselves for peaceful, calm and comfortable bithing. The birthing body and the baby know just what to do. HypnoBirthing is designed to teach women to trust in Nature's way of birth and to relax and let their bodies do what is needed. By practicing a few key techniques, mothers programme their minds and condition their bodies to birth easily. When it comes to programming and conditioning, variety is not necessarily a good thing. Repetition is what gets the best result. HypnoBirthing® provides the missing link that allows women to use their natural instincts to bring about a safer, easier, more comfortable birthing. Emphasis is placed on pregnancy and childbirth, as well as on pre-birth parenting and the sonsciousness of the pre born baby. As a birthing method, HypnoBirthing® is as new as tomorrow and as old as ancient times. It is presented in a series of five, 2 1/2 hour classes.

How I came to HypnoBirthing®
After two uncomfortable births that left me wondering where the "magic" of birth was and deciding therefore that we would have no more children, I found myself pregnant again. Feeling hopeless and wondering how I could endure another painful labour and delivery I eventually decided that I would go through with it, but I would do it differently. But how? I searched the internet until I found the HypnoBirthing® website. I knew immediately that this was the right place for me and that HypnoBirthing was the "eye opener" that would help me find the "magic" which was missing in my two previous births.

Since we were living in South Korea at a time when HypnoBirthing was not yet available locally, I had no choice but to self study the HypnoBirthing book. Everything I read and learnt, instinctively felt right - like common sense. I began to look forward to this birth and felt excited that I could have a better experience. Throughout my pregnancy I was practising relaxation techniques that helped me overcome fears and anxiety associated with my earlier births.

I remember the exact time of my first surge, 8.20am and instinctively knew that this was it, our son was going to be born today. I rang our Doula and arranged to meet her later at the hospital. My husband joined me as I continued the relaxtion and calm breathing around the home until I knew it was time to go to the hospital. We made the appropriate arrangements for the care of our other two children and headed off.

The picture above shows me and my husband an hour or so before our son William was born at Soonchunhyung Hospital, Seoul, South Korea in May 2006.

To say that this birth experience was an improvement on the previous two is a massive understatement. I had doubts about whether I could do this - be relaxed, breath and allow my body to work: in the end I just went with it. I knew that I had nothing to loose and everything to gain.

It truly was an empowering experience and it was the springboard that set me on the path to becoming a HypnoBirthing® Practitioner. I have been teaching HypnoBIrthing® since I became qualified in Australia during December 2007. Since then, I have had the honour of being involved in the lives of some very amazing women, their partners and children. Some women were first time mums, others were 2nd or 3rd time mums, some had hospital births, some had home births and some were VBAC's (vagainal birth after cesarean). The beauty and power of birth constantly humbles me and fires my passion to become a better teacher, woman, mother, wife and human being.

After being present at several births, I decided to become a Certified Doula. I am very happy to say that I am now a Certified Childbirth Doula with Childbirth International, practising in Brisbane. What is a Doula? I will travel to all areas of Brisbane for birth doula services.

I have taught HypnoBirthing in Seoul, South Korea; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and I am now happily settled with my gorgeous husband and three beautiful children in The Gap, Brisbane. HypnoBirthing classes in Brisbane - The Gap are now being run

HypnoBirthing® - The Mongan Method

HypnoBirthing® - The Mongan Method is as much a philosophy as it is a technique. The concept of HypnoBirthing® is not new, but rather a "rebirth" of the philosophy of birthing as it existed thousands of years ago and as it was recaptured in the work of Dr. Grantly Dick-Read, an English obstetrician, who, in the 1920s, was one of the first to forward the concept of natural birthing. The method teaches you that, in the absence of fear and tension, or special medical circumstances, severe pain does not have to be an accompaniment of labor.

You will gain an understanding of how the birthing muscles work in perfect harmony--as they were designed to--when your body is sufficiently relaxed and you trust birth. You will learn how to achieve this kind of relaxation, free of the resistance that fear creates, and you will learn to use your natural birthing instincts for a calm, serene and comfortable birth.

When you have your baby with HypnoBirthing®, you will not be in a trance or a sleep. What you will experience is similar to the daydreaming, or focusing, that occurs when you are engrossed in a book or a movie or staring into a fire.

You will be conversant and in good spirits--totally relaxed, but fully in control. Awake throughout, you will be aware of your body's surges and your baby's progress; but because you will have trained yourself to reach complete relaxation, you will be able to determine the degree and the manner in which you will feel the surges. You will experience birthing in an atmosphere of calm relaxation, free of the fear that prevents the muscles of your body from functioning as nature intended them to. In this calm state, your body's natural relaxant, endorphins, replaces the stress hormones that constrict and cause pain.

Trained HypnoBirthing® educators are successfully teaching women and their birthing companions to trust birth and release all fear and limiting thoughts. HypnoBirthing® practitioners can be found in 34 countries throughout the world.

What is a Doula?

A doula supports a woman and her partner during pregnancy, birth, and the early weeks of parenting, with reassurance, practical assistance, and information. A doula is someone you come to know well by the time of your birth, and who is there during your labor, by your side, focused solely on you and your partner. She can encourage you, remain objective, and help your partner feel more confident about how to support you. She can also assist you with practical knowledge on comfort measures for labor, such as massage and suggestions for positioning. A doula can provide information when you have questions, and can help you communicate most effectively with your medical caregivers.

The main focus of a doula's role is often on the birth itself, but doula support can also be invaluable during pregnancy (especially if you face questions about tests or complications), and after the birth when she can help out with feeding and adjusting to life with a newborn.

There are a few things a doula is not. She is not acting as a nurse or midwife, so she does not provide clinical care such as doing examinations on you or checking your baby's heartbeat. The support a doula provides fits together with, but does not replace, the care of your doctor, midwife, or nurses.

Doulas do not make decisions for you, or speak for you. This is your birth, your baby, your life! A doula supports you by providing information and explanations you may want about your choices, but it's always you who decides what's best for you.

The HypnoBirthing® Premise

For most of their lives, women have been inundated with the negative stories of other women’s birth experiences. Everyone, from their mothers, sisters, aunts, cousins, friends, and even strangers, wants to tell them the horrors of giving birth. They have been conditioned to believe that excruciating pain is associated with labour; and because of this, women today hold an unprecedented fear of giving birth. This extreme fear causes their bodies to become tense, and that tension prohibits their bodies from easily performing a normal physiological function. The result is exactly what they feared most - long, painful birthing or unnecessary intervention.

People who are drawn to this method of childbirth have long been searching for a way to give birth confidently and as calmly, safely, and gently as possible, whether they have chosen to birth in a hospital, a birthing center or at home. Until HypnoBirthing®, this kind of birthing almost seemed unattainable for the general population.

Through a very simple program of self-hypnosis and education, healthy, low-risk women, as well as women who need medical assistance because of special circumstances, learn to dismiss fear-based stories, misinformation, and birthing myths; and they are helped to see birth as normal. They learn to trust that their bodies know how to bring their babies into the world in the calm and gentle way that Nature intended.

"I've been a labour and birthing nurse for 17 years and after attending HypnoBirthings, I'll never look at birth in the same light. It's incredible" - Judy Richardson, RN, Travelling Nurse
