Kym is qualified and experienced in the above approaches, and has been working in organisations and private practice for three decades.

Kym has also trained and run programs in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction,(based on Jon Kabat-Zinn's model, from the Univ.of Massachusetts), and often incorporates teaching meditation and Mindfulness skills to clients, as this helps to offer a clear anchor, in their experience. These simple skills provide a tool for greater awareness into the ebb and flow that forms daily life experience. The ability to view things from a more centred and objective vantage -point can offer a clarity and balance that may have seemed missing previously.

Kym also uses Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, in assisting clients to manage mood, anxiety, phobias, sleep disorders, or pain - there is now a large body of research underlining the success of this approach over previous more traditional cognitive approaches.

COUNSELLING

Kym offers counselling or therapy for individuals, relationships , children and families and is qualified in Family Therapy., and a range of counselling approaches, at postgraduate level. She has extensive experience in working with a broad range of areas. Some of these are:-

  • MOOD DISORDERS
  • SLEEP/EATING DISORDERS
  • GRIEF AND LOSS
  • PAIN MANAGEMENT/CHRONIC FATIGUE
  • RECOVERY FROM ABUSE
    RELATIONSHIP ISSUES

Clients learn how to appreciate living more fully 'in the moment', and to work with the areas presenting conflicts in a safe and relaxing environment. Within Kym's approach, there is an increased ability to tolerate and manage even what we perceive as more 'difficult' feelings, through cultivating simple mind skills, different attitudes, and a greater openness, awareness, and sense of inner balance. Most of the skills learned are used at home, on a regular basis, and so are actually very cost effective. More importantly, people find them very nurturing and strengthening, as they find different ways of being with themselves and others, through the insights/awareness that are developed.

    PSYCHOTHERAPY

Kym provides Psychotherapy, where indicated, based on Psychodynamic, Mindfulness, Schema-focussed and Interpersonal methods. Kym also offers specifically Buddhist -oriented Psychotherapy, when requested. She has been a Vipassana practitioner/student for the past 35 years.

    HYPNOTHERAPY

Kym has Advanced Practitioner training in Clinical Hypnotherapy, from the NSW Academy of Applied Hypnosis (Govt. accredited), and offers this , where requested, especially when working with people who are striving to overcome addictions; improve low self-esteem; recover from abuse, or learn skills in managing stress, anxiety/ phobias etc. Kym has worked for many years with ANXIETY and EATING/ BODY IMAGE issues with hypnotherapy, ( where people prefer this to working with meditation/ mindfulness skills and/or counselling methods) She has several years' experience in organisations and private practice, working with children who are suffering from fears, phobias, adjustment issues,or BULLYING at school, and holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Family Therapy. which she obtained through Relationships Australia, following completion of her undergrad.degree in counselling and psychology in 1994

    BOWEN THERAPY

Kym has trained in Bowen Therapy , with Bowtech, (Govt.accredited and Registered Training Organisation), to offer a more wholistic and bodybased method of working therapeutically, where issues are impairing optimal functioning, or causing pain- physical or emotional. She has been working as a Bowen therapist for the past 7 years, in Sydney, Glen Innes, Tenterfield and Inverell.

Bowen Therapy is a gentle, painless, yet very effective modality, which seems to be increasingly sought after, due to its subtlety and effective outcomes, with a wide range of acute and chronic physical issues, as well as emotional issues. It accesses the body's own inherent 'intelligence' and ability to rebalance that which has become dysfunctional, through activating with gentle movements, the self-correcting mechanisms operating between the brain, and the musculofascial, lymphatic, endocrine, and nervous systems. It also works within the meridian system, as in acupuncture, and offers gentle detoxifiction and relaxation, in every treatment ,without the need for manipulation. Problems or injuries are addressed at many different levels simultaeneously. Having been a recipient of Bowen Therapy for about 15 years, Kym decided to do the training, to offer this modality to her clients, and has been seeing wonderful results!
