About Marian (Maz) Binnie
I have been a registered psychologist for over 35 years.
The tapestry of my career has covered many diverse roles, including working in Calcutta with Mother Teresa in the mid 70’s, being the Superintendent of a Juvenile Jail, working in Care and Protection settings for young people and as a group facilitator for participants in both prisons and the community setting for substance abuse issues, anger management, consequential thinking strategies and problem solving. I have also conducted workshops on stress, communication and conflict resolution at business venues including factories and retail outlets.
I constantly update my training which has included cognitive behavioral work, narrative work, solution focused work, emotionally focused work, mindfulness work, have a Clinical Diploma in hypnosis, training in eating disorder issues, depression, a qualification in Advanced Informed Treatment Practices (from the Institute of Clinical Excellence in Chicago). I have also trained under the renowned Martin Seligman in positive psychology.
My long experience in the field embraces work with individuals, young people, couples and groups and the issues we have faced together have been as wide ranging as the individuals who bring them. My main focus is to assist my clients through their process of change and to facilitate change that brings about a happier, healthier and a more fulfilled life for clients.
In my work as a psychologist with the Government my role was to facilitate treatment groups, mainly for emotional/anger management. I retired from this work late in 2014 after 35 years of government work. I have been running my private practice – Everything Changes - for over 15 years. I work from home and like to think i have created a safe and welcoming environment for my clients. I am pleased to say that most of the referrals I receive are via word of mouth recommendations from clients and from Doctors who have previously referred clients to me and who have found the outcome of the work successful for their patients.
I feel very passionate about my work and privileged to be a part of positive change in the lives of so many.
