Ferguson Street Osteopathy offers effective osteopathic treatment, health advice and lifestyle management for everyone in the family!
Ferguson Street Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a form of manual therapy that is versatile in it’s range of techniques making it suitable for all sorts of people – athletes, office workers, mums or mums to be, teenagers, children, babies, those ‘past’ middle age and more! Following the principles of body unity, osteopaths focus on diagnosing and treating the cause of the problem, not just the symptoms. This can mean long and lasting relief, without the need for constant appointments! To compliment the treatment and to ensure overall wellbeing, osteopaths also prescribe exercise management and lifestyle changes.
At Ferguson Street Osteopathy, our osteopath Julie has years of experience in treating a wide range of common conditions – helping her patients eliminate pain and discomfort and restoring optimal function to the whole body.
What We Treat
Some of the many conditions that osteopaths see regularly include:
Elbow and Wrist pain (tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome)
Digestive problems (indigestion, constipation)
Circulation issues including swelling
Pregnancy related complaints
Childhood and infant aches and pains
How We Treat
Osteopathic treatment works on all of the different tissues that make the body – muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones, joints, fascia, nerves, arteries and organs. Our osteopath Julie enlists a wide range of techniques that work on these various components of the body. These include: massage, joint manipulation, joint articulation, muscle energy technique, fascial release techniques, counterstrain, visceral osteopathy, cranial osteopathy and biodynamic osteopathy.
Dr. Julie Hjorth, Osteopath
Julie is the principal osteopath at Ferguson Street Osteopathy.
She studied osteopathy at RMIT University in Melbourne, and soon after graduating moved to Fremantle, Western Australia where her career as an osteopath began. While in Fremantle, Julie split her time between two esteemed clinics and gained much knowledge from her colleagues and patients alike. In 2014 Julie returned to Victoria, and took up locum positions to cover for osteopaths on maternity leave. All of the clinics Julie has worked in over the years have given her a wide range of experience, adding to her student days where she worked in massage and as head sports trainer of a football club.
Julie has a special interest in treating womens health issues, pregnancy, children, adolescents and babies. She finds that these groups can benefit greatly from osteopathic treatment, and are an important part of our society to maintain good health. Julie has been seeing pregnant women and young children/babies regularly throughout her time as an osteopath and has added to this experience with many related post-graduate courses. Julie has worked closely with osteopaths all across Australia as well as in the US and Canada, and continues to learn and grow through these relationships.
Julie approaches treatment with a view that every patient is different, in their body, mind and spirit, and tailors the treatment to suit their needs. She combines structural technique with more gentle, cranial techniques to obtain the best results that are lasting.
The clinic has HICAPS facilities for instant private health care rebates. Credit and EFTPOS cards excepted.
Please don’t hesitate to contact Julie at the clinic if you have any questions or if you wish to make a booking.
