About Massage

When it comes to manual therapy, there are an increasing number of options available, from chiropractic, physiotherapy and osteopathic work to acupuncture, Bowen and shiatsu, to name a few.

Massage is perhaps one of the oldest and best known methods for muscle relaxation.

Massage focuses on the connective tissue that makes up muscles, tendons and ligaments. By using pressure, friction and stretching techniques, tight muscles are eased into a looser position, allowing greater flexibility and reducing movement pain. You don’t need to have a medical condition to benefit from a massage. We often work too hard, pushing our bodies to perform, expecting our bodies to co-operate. Often our posture is poor, our lifestyles are sedentary and we are worn down with stress.

A massage is a great way to help your body deal with the life you lead. It’s not just the body that will get the benefit. Whilst your muscles are being loosened and relaxed, you can enjoy the time out and relax your mind too.

So whether you are feeling run down, have some niggling aches and pains, or just want some time for yourself, book yourself a massage treatment and enjoy!

Common conditions massage can help

Sciatica - Pain is often felt in the lower back and gluteal area accompanied by sharp pain down the leg. Relaxation of the lower back and gluteal area, can relieve the pressure on the sciatic nerve and reduce symptoms.

Headaches - Tension headaches are the most common type of headache, caused by overtight muscles in the shoulder and neck region. Massage is a great way to release these muscles and ease headache pain.

Osteo-Arthritis - A condition caused by general wear and tear on joints. Muscles often become tight around affected areas and cause secondary pain, which massage can help to relieve.

Rheumatoid Arthritis - An autoimmune disease, which causes inflammation and pain in the joints. During sub-acute stages massage can be beneficial in reducing pain.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome - A condition affecting the hand as a result of irritation or impingement of median nerve. In cases where condition has not been left too long massage can help to reduce tension around the problem area, releasing restriction on nerve.

Tennis Elbow - Caused by irritation to the tendon and muscles that attach to the elbow. When no inflammation is present, massage can help to stretch tissues and bring blood to the area, speeding up the healing process.

Pregnancy During pregnancy - During pregnancy, along with general aches and pains, sciatica is a common problem. Massage can be very successful in reducing sciatic pain and is wonderful way to find relaxation.
