What is Clinical Pilates?

Pilates is an exercise system, which helps improve posture, strength, flexibility and core stability. It is named after its inventor, Joseph Pilates (pronounced pi-lah-tees), a physical trainer who worked in an internment camp during World War I and helped to rehabilitate returned soldiers.

Free2Move offers Clinical Pilates - this means that every class is run by a qualified Pilates Physiotherapist and can be claimed through Private Health Insurance. An individual assessment is recommended before starting our classes.

Private or Semi-Private or Group Pilates?

At Free2Move we offer two styles of Clinical Pilates: Private / Semi-Private Classes and Group Classes. Both are suitable for beginners as well as continuing participants.

Private and Semi-Private Classes

These classes are held in our Studio in our North Perth Studio and use the large Pilates equipment Reformers, Trapeze Table and Wunda Chair. There are between 1 and 4 people per class and every person has an individual programme. You will also have a home programme. For more information about these classes, visit our website

Group Classes

These exercise and education classes are held at the Chapel Space in North Perth and use floor mats and small equipment such as BodyBolsters and resistance bands. There are approximately 6 to 10 participants per class. Most people start at beginners Level 1 and you can progress to Level 2 and 3. They are the most economical of our classes. For more information about these classes, visit the Services page on our website and go to 'Group Classes' click here

How to Enrol

Ring or email us today to book an individual assessment and get started on a new path to well-being. Your 40 minute appointment with one of our Physiotherapists will include tests for your posture, flexiblity and muscle function. We then work with you to set goals that specifically address any problem areas and help you chose the right class for you.

How Does Pilates Work?

Recent scientific research has shown that sufferers of back pain often have a weakness in specific spinal and abdominal muscles. They may not be activating these muscles in the right way or at the right time, or the muscles may be trained for strength but not endurance. Many Physiotherapists have found that retraining and strengthening of the deep or 'core' stabilising muscles is essential when helping someone with back or neck pain return to optimal function.

Frequently Treated Conditions

Clinical Pilates can also assist other problems such as neck pain, shoulder pain, arm pain, hip pain, knee pain, foot or ankle pain, poor balance, posture problems and lack of flexibility. Our staff are also very experienced in treating arthritis, lumbar disc injuries and joint hypermobility syndrome. We frequently help people recovering from knee and hip replacements.
