Qualification details

Léonie John

Léonie John has a background in music having studied the piano in Glasgow. She began having lessons in the Alexander Technique during student days in 1974 due to recurrent severe back problems. The focus gradually shifted from music to the Alexander Technique via disparate activities such as teaching the piano in the Outer Hebrides and working at the UN in Geneva.

Léonie qualified from Jeanne and Aksel Haahr's training course in July 1984 and built up a busy teaching practice in Edinburgh, before moving to Australia in 1985. Léonie has also taught in Switzerland. She is particularly good at helping individuals with "intractable" problems.

Michael Stenning
is a Canberra-based Alexander Technique teacher, of over 35 years’ experience, who has
given CDP workshops and training for Alexander Teachers and Trainees in Australia, Great Britain, the USA, Denmark, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, and elsewhere.
He is a musician who used the Alexander Technique to rehabilitate himself and resume playing after his career was interrupted through the effects of tension and stress.
Michael is a former Chair of AuSTAT and of AuSTAT’s Training Course Standing Committee.
He was a panelist and presenter at the Chicago Congress.
He is interested in the practice of performance of any kind, including that of teaching. He has worked extensively
with musicians and athletes, as well as with Alexander teachers.
