Myofascial Dry Needling (MDN)

Dry Needling differs from Acupuncture, as unlike acupuncture, the treatment methodology of Dry needling does not concentrate on acu-points or meridiens which is a modality of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Dry Needling is utilised by practitioners who use fine filament needles to treat the musculoskeletal and nervous systems based on modern neuroanatomy science. Dry Needling is often used in combination with Physiotherapy, Osteopathy, Chiropractic Care or Myotherapy.

Dry Needling is a targeted treatment that is suitable for active individuals of all ages.

Although this treatment is relatively pain-free, a slight pinching twitch response feeling may be felt when the fine needles are inserted into the affected muscle and trigger point.

Some symptoms may include a dull ache at the site of the needle, a strong ache down the referral pain pathway, pins and needles, heat or no feeling at all.

A trigger point is a tender spot that is located within a tight band of muscle, which can cause an individual pain when it is pressed or squeezed. Sessions will be tailored to your individual needs, and with the upmost of care.

Myofascial Dry Needling has been proven to help the following conditions:

    • Musculoskeletal dysfunction and pain
    • Muscle Spasm
    • Myofacial trigger points

Some possible side affects of MDN can include the following:

    • Post treatment soreness
    • General feeling of tiredness or fatigue

Recommendations post treatment varies depending on the individuals response to dry needling. Your therapist may suggest applying heat or ice to the area, gentle stretches and changes to activities for 24 hours post treatment
