What is massage?

It is a term for pressing, manipulating and rubbing your muscles, skin, tendons and ligaments. It varies in pressure from light strokes to deeper pressure.

What are the different types of massage that Gilly uses?

Swedish massage is a gentle form of massage that utilizes long strokes, kneading and deep circular movements to relax you and energize your body systems.

Deep Tissue massage, as its name suggests, uses slower and more focused techniques to target deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue.

Trigger Point massage targets areas of chronically or acutely tight muscle fibre and uses specific points and shifting techniques to release muscles and muscle groups.

Hot Rocks Massage is a specialty massage using warmed basalt stones. They are used as an extension of my hands as well as placing them on the body. The heat can be deeply relaxing and help to warm and release tight muscles allowing me to work the muscles without applying deep pressure. The warmth of the stones improves circulation and lymphatic drainage and calms the nervous system.

Cupping is an ancient Oriental Therapy using small vacuum cups to create suction pressure in specific areas. It is used to soften tight muscles and tone attachments, loosen adhesions and lift connective tissue, bring hydration and blood flow to body tissues, move deep inflammation to the skin surface for release, and drain excess fluids and toxins by opening lymphatic pathways.

Pregnancy Massage can be done at any stage of pregnancy to relieve symptoms such as back pain, sciatica, carpal tunnel, oedema and high blood pressure to name a few. I use a special pregnancy pillow that can accommodate an expanding belly. It is lovely because you can lie on your front and take the weight off for a while and really allow your body to relax.
