Our Services

SPORTS and BIOMECHANICS
Podiatrists assess, diagnosis and treat any musculo-skeletal ailments of the Foot, Ankle and Lower Leg related to weightbearing activity. Foot malfunction can extend as far as the knee, hip and lower back. From elite athletes, recreational participants to those who spend alot of time on their feet, the correct foot and leg alignment is crucial in keeping you active and performing at your best. Musckulo-skeletal and biomechanical assessment involves identifying the specific anatomy in question and finding the key underlying risk factors contributing to the injury. Treadmill gait analysis is used to identify specific functional anomalies both walking and running. Treatment may include stretching and strengthening progammes, modified training programmes, appropriate footwear changes, orthotic therapy and possible referral to other highly trained health care professionals, such as Physiotherapists and Sports Physicians.

INGROWN TOE NAILS / SURGERY
The removal and filing of the offending nail edge. Conservative treatment will provide immediate releif, however more recalcitrant nails require permanent removal via a basic surgical procedure. Under local anaesthetic, the problematic nail edge is resected, then a medicinal chemical is used to cauterize the growth area. This is a "walk in, walk out" procedure with guarantee of a permanently painfree toe.

NAILS, CORNS and CALLUSES
Toe nails for some, can be very difficult to self maintain, due to a lack of mobility or the thickness of the nails. Nail treatment involves the reduction of the thickness and length of the nails, ensuring comfort. Corns and Callus are an accumulation of dense skin cells due to excessive pressure and/or friction. Treatment involves the superficial debridement or "enucleation" (removing the core of the corn) using a sterile scalpel. These coditions often reoccur, however adressing factors such as biomechanics (foot function) and footwear, the development of such lesions can be delayed.

PLANTAR WARTS
Often a stubborn complaint, first line treatment is reducing the hardened skin overlying the lesion and applying a measured quantity of salacylic acid. For long standing difficult warts, "needleing" under local anaesthetic is an effective treatment option. Podiatrists are regarded as wart treatment specialists.

DIABETES
People with diabetes are at much greater risk of encountering foot problems, this is due to the potential manefestation of neurological and vascular defecits relating to high sugar content in the blood stream. A combination of poor blood circulation and lack of sensation in the feet makes the skin vulnerable to break down and prone to delayed healing. The end result is a foot at risk of ulcerating and the possibilty of gangrene / amputation. It is paramount that feet "at risk" are assessed by a podiatrist. Gary will conduct a comprehensive diabetic foot assessment at least once annually, measuring pulse rate/volume via doppler ultrasound and identifying early changes in nerve competencies.
