Therapist Claire Gilmour completed her Diploma of Remedial Therapies and has worked in private practice alongside Osteopaths, Chiropractors, Physiotherapists and Doctors since 2003.

Claire has developed her professional skills by completing postgraduate studies in Lymphatic Drainage Massage and Oncology Massage. Claire is listed with Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) and Oncology Massage training, as a qualified therapist to see clients with cancer or who are recovering from cancer.

What is an Oncologist Massage Therapist?

An Oncology Massage (OM) Therapist is a qualified Remedial Massage Therapist, who has completed additional post-graduate studies in Oncology Massage Therapy.

Oncology Massage Training addresses the full spectrum of cancer-related issues: the physical and emotional effects of cancer and the potential side effects of various treatments. Therapists adapt their extensive repertoire of massage therapy techniques to work safely and effectively with people living with cancer.

OM therapists have a working knowledge of:

• How cancer develops and spreads around the body
• Pressure, site and positioning adjustments for people undergoing surgery, chemotherapy or radiation therapy
• Pressure, site and positioning for people with appliances, scar tissue and bone metastases
• Safe massage treatments for people after lymph node removal or irradiation
  
  The Cancer Council supports the use of gentle Massage Therapy, by experienced qualified therapists. They have produced an information sheet called Massage and Cancer: An Introduction to the benefits of touch.
