About Jackie

Jackie is South Australia’s first certified Jivamukti Yoga Teacher and has now brought Jivamukti Yoga classes to Adelaide! She believes that the ancient teachings and techniques of Yoga are as effective and exhilarating today as they were thousands of years ago. She is devoted to lifting people out of the humdrum by teaching that liberation from all kinds of suffering is possible even while living a modern, urban lifestyle.

With a PhD in Wound Healing and Gene Therapy, Jackie’s early background was steeped in science and medicine. Always interested in health and fitness, however, she concomitantly became a group fitness instructor at the age of 20. After a major cycling accident, Jackie attended her first Yoga asana class through rehabilitation. She soon later began studying and practicing Hatha and Prenatal Yoga in Florida under her first teacher, Sandra Angelou-Kaplan, of Sandhi Yoga, from 2003 until 2006.

Classes

Jivamukti Yoga Open

The class is called “Open” because it is open and suitable to all levels of practitioner. Asana options are provided for beginners, intermediate and advanced students. Even so, beginning level students should know that there will not be much detailed “how to do” descriptions; for that a student is advised to attend a Basic or Beginner Vinyasa Class. The length of an Open class differs at times, so please check the schedule before attending.

Spiritual Warrior

Jivamukti Spiritual Warrior Classes are designed for busy people who only have an hour to practice. The class is fast paced and invigorating and is certainly a “get-in-shape” class. The structure is a fixed set sequence instructed in a vinyasa style. It is a fully balanced class which includes asana warm-up, chanting, setting of intention, surya namaskar, standing poses, backbends, forward bends, twists, inversions, meditation and relaxation.

Gentle Hatha Yoga

This class is perfect for beginners, older students and students recovering from or facing injury or illness, but is open to all students looking for some deep rejuvenation and restoration. It is a slow moving, deep exploratory class that is presented in a more relaxed way than vinyasa. It focuses on regenerative yoga poses that are profoundly healing and detoxifying.

Beginner Vinyasa

Beginner Vinyasa classes provide a good transition for a beginner student from Basic classes to Open classes. Additionally, they provide an opportunity for a more advanced student to refine their skills through more detailed exploration of the asanas and how they can flow together seamlessly by means of steady paced ujjayi breathing.
