Massage Types

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is a technique that is the basis of all Western forms of massage treatment. It can help maintain muscles in an optimum state of nutrition, flexibility and vitality whilst relieving muscle tightness and stiffness that may restrict full movement. This is the type of treatment often received in day spas.

The techniques used in Swedish massage are designed to have a relaxing effect. It is a rhythmic and fairly superficial style and while the muscles are not worked too vigorously, great benefits to the body can still be felt.

Stimulated circulation of both blood and lymph may be achieved through Swedish massage. The increased blood circulation to the skin and muscles delivers vital nutrients, helping the skin and muscles to maintain optimum health.

Swedish massage can invigorate and nourish the skin, relieve fatigue, calm the nervous system reduce tension, improve and promote relaxation to give you a sense of renewed energy.

Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic massage encompasses body, mind and spirit by normalising body systems. The therapeutic touch increases well-being by stimulating the nervous, circulatory and respiratory systems. Stress reduction occurs due to a decrease in muscle tension and improvement in circulation. A therapeutic massage session may contain a large relaxation element to it but advanced techniques are used to target pain, tension and assist with chronic health issues.

Your therapist will discuss your current requirements with you and develop a treatment plan to assist you with your needs on the day. Your treatment plan will be explained to you prior to treatment starting and you will have the opportunity to ask questions and confirm your understanding of the treatment plan.

About us

Your massage therapist is Brett Byron. Brett has had a varied life with many challenges including beating Leukaemia in 1995. However he has always maintained a focus on helping the community, volunteering with many Emergency Service organisations over the last 25 years. In 2009 after a round-the-world trip Brett decided life was not just meant to be a 9–5 work day and his passion to help people was set for a new direction. The change was needed not only to focus on his own life and health but to help others understand life is about quality and living each day as well as you can.

While working full time and running a small confectionary business, Brett took up studying massage. He has found massage to be very rewarding not only for the clients but for himself as well. In August 2010 Brett decided he would like to open a Massage and Wellbeing Centre. In October 2010 this dream came true with Green Lotus Therapies Massage and Wellbeing Centre opening its doors for business in the west Canberra suburb of Higgins ACT. In May 2011 Brett left full time employment to run the Massage and Wellbeing Centre on a full time basis.

Since opening a steady stream of people have become regular clients finding Brett’s style of massage a great benefit to their wellbeing. Brett will take time with each client to develop individual treatment plans, to meet their needs, and to help them understand the joys of positive living.
