What is Yoga?

The word YOGA comes from a Sanskrit word meaning union, to yoke or to join; the union of opposites. It originated in India hundreds of years ago, and incorporates physical exercises (poses or asana's), breathing techniques (pranayama), meditation or mindful relaxation, and philosophies for living in harmony with yourself and others. It is not aligned with any religion, though is complimentary to most people's belief systems and spirituality. Different people experience different benefits from yoga. It often relates to what you need most in your life your body and mind will typically gravitate towards whatever will serve you best at any given time. Above all yoga is fun and spirited. At the end of your yoga class expect to feel empowered, yet relaxed. Your body will feel rejuvenated with a calm sense of focus

Good Reasons to Practice Yoga

1 - You don't need expensive sporting equipment, or the latest fandangle gadget to participate. The classes are highly affordable at $17.00 a casual class and $130.00 for a 10 week term. We offer make-up classes only for the permanent 10 week booking (conditions apply). NO refunds for missed classes. The only thing you need in order to do yoga is you!
2 - Even if you are facing many challenges in life, it is easy to start doing yoga and you will experience instant benefits, such as stress-relief. Furthermore, once you begin to practice regularly, yoga will help you to live your life with renewed positivity and enthusiasm. Yoga assists you in not sweating the small stuff and appreciating what you do have.
3 - Yoga is safe. Where other forms of exercise might put a strain on your heart, muscles and joints, yoga, practiced properly (with awareness to your physical limitations), is a completely harmless form of exercise.
4 - Yoga makes you smile and take life less seriously. It can take us out of the mundane. Giving us opportunity to live outside our comfort zone by offering us Yoga poses that allows our body to release emotional blockages. We can experience mantras, yoga dance and many beautiful surprises that Yoga can bring (depending on your teachers style and purpose).
5 - Yoga is not just for athletes, celebrities and supermodels! Yoga is for everyone: young or old, male or female, healthy or sick. Yoga can always be adapted to your individual needs, whatever your circumstances.
6 - Yoga both tones the respiratory system and helps you to breathe more fully, deeply and easily (thus increasing your oxygen intake), which in turn, will improve your physical and mental well-being.
