Movement is one of the most beneficial factors in maintaining a healthy body.

It is important to keep the body moving and flexible, especially as we age.

Chair Yoga is suitable for anyone who wishes to practice Yoga on a chair and is particularly available to Seniors, People living with disabilities or People living with arthritis or chronic pain.

The classes are designed to suit all levels of capabilities from active Seniors to those recovering from an injury.

Why do Chair Yoga?

  • Chair yoga offers wonderful health benefits for seniors. Being seated allows seniors with limited mobility or delicate seniors to exercise safely.
  • Yoga routines can be customised to adapt to your abilities and range of functionality.
  • Chair yoga is designed to not cause any pain. You may skip any movements that are too difficult or may cause pain. Keeping you comfortable and safe is the number one priority.
  • With regular practise, your flexibility and strength will improve, allowing you to move more freely.
  • It’s a fun activity to do with your friends and family or to meet new people.

What would you need during practise?

Despite chair yoga being a low-risk and low-impact exercise, make sure you have the right equipment to prevent injuries and maximise your workout.

The following are some essential chair yoga items:

  • A stable, armless chair
  • Flat, levelled surface
  • Comfortable clothing, not too tight or baggy
  • Room to stretch your arms and legs
  • For safety, a friend or instructor with experience is essential

Exercise has tremendous benefits for seniors and people with chronic pain.

Not only can chair yoga accommodate the natural ageing processes for seniors, but it can also help those living with disabilities and with limited mobility to stay active.
