MTHFR Genetic Testing

MTHFR Stands for METHYLENE-TETRA-HYDRO-FOLATE- REDUCTASE and it's an enzyme that converts the folate in the food that you eat into a form which the body can use. Through the conversion of a non-active folate to something that is an active folate is what we call Methylation. Folate is found in foods such as beans, eggs, organ and liver meats, lentils and vegetables specifically those in dark green leafy vegetables.

What is the role of Methylation, and why is it so important?

Methylation is a process that takes places in almost every cell in the human body and it is required for many functions, processes, and reactions to occur in the body. Some of the roles of methylation are:

    • Processes our hormones.

    • Builds and repairs our DNA & RNA.

    • Repair Cell Membranes

    • Helps prevent Depression, Anxiety, Insomnia, and promotes healthy brain function and supports our neurotransmitters.

    • Helps with a well-functioning immune system.

    • And more…

What if I have a mutation in the MTHFR Gene?

A mutation in this MTHFR gene does not necessarily mean that you will have any issues, as lifestyle and diet play a large role in how our genes affect us. However, a lot of individuals have severe chronic conditions which improve out of sight when methylation is improved by balancing the bodies deficiencies. Some conditions associated with MTHFR are:

    • Depression

    • Arthritis

    • Stress

    • Asthma

    • Thyroid Dysfunction

    • Insomnia

    • Suicidal Thoughts

    • And more…
