Why Meditate
The benefits of meditation have been well documented over many years and include lower blood pressure, lower stress hormones, better sleep patterns, greater feelings of relaxation and calmness, reduced physiological age, increased feelings of happiness, greater clarity and concentration, and a feeling of greater peace and connectedness to life. Once you start to feel the benefits it just feels like it’s something you want to do and you often wish you’d started earlier!

In today’s busy world it appears to be getting harder to take the time to give yourself a break and spend some time just for you. The Introduction to Meditation Course is an easy way to start to an improved you and the techniques you’ll learn are easy to do in your own time if you want to practise to speed up the benefits gained. There is certainly a cumulative effect to meditation with the benefits gained from one session leading onto the next one. Meditating is a great way to a happier, healthier and more relaxed you.

What will I learn?

While there are many benefits to meditation, the aim is to be able to bring the benefits such as better ability to deal with stress, clarity, greater ability to concentrate and deal with issues and just being happier into your life – not just the individual meditation session itself. The emphasis is on connecting back to your true self or your higher truth through relaxation, visualisation and techniques to help find the space in a busy mind.

During the introductory course you will learn a variety of meditation techniques as well as doing several hours of meditation. The course is progressive, with each week adding onto the previous week, enabling you to reach a deeper level of meditation throughout the course.

The sessions have a strong grounding in health meditation techniques, where we become more aware and connected to the bodies we live in through progressive muscle relaxation, breath work and guided imagery while remaining grounded.

What are the Outcomes?

As part of the course you will get to feel deep relaxation, feel more connected to your body, feel better physically and psychologically – leading to increased feelings of calmness and clarity, a greater ability to concentrate, and increased feelings of happiness. Other possibilities include feeling more connected to other people and life in general.

Course Structure

The aim of the Introduction to Meditation Course is to give you the opportunity to move to a deeper state of meditation over the program, using a variety of techniques to help you reach a higher state of consciousness or your higher truth. As the base level of awareness improves, the health benefits begin to have an effect and the meditation becomes deeper. We then progress to some mindfulness meditation activities to help you bring the benefits of meditation into your daily life more quickly. We also look at techniques to assist with problem solving and help deal with issues to create a better life. These are more active meditation techniques which follow becoming centred, grounded and relaxed, to ensure the health benefits are maintained.

Class Structure

The only way to benefit from meditation is to do it! So each class has forty minutes of meditation (Introduction class starts with 30 minutes and builds up to 40 minutes over the course), with time at the beginning and end of the meditation for questions, interaction, feedback and some discussion on technique and what we will concentrate on for the individual session.

Each of the forty minute meditation sessions is led with instruction for around half of the meditation period and silence for the other half. The exercises are progressive and move from a calm mind in a calm body to a more engaged mind in a calm body. As the course progresses, less time will be spent on instruction and more on silence to enable you to experience stillness or work through an exercise to help you maintain balance and equilibrium, which you will then be able to bring into the day to day of our lives.

Each class you are provided with notes for that session, so there is no need to take notes yourself and if you do miss a class for any reason the notes will be emailed to you so you never miss out, and you are always welcome to ring to discuss either a particular class or your meditation experiences in general.
