What is Herbal Medicine?

Herbal Medicine combines both ancient uses of herbal medicine and the most modern, scientific research and applications.  Herbal Medicine dates back thousands of years and in fact is the oldest therapeutic medicine that is known to man.

A Medical Herbalist is trained in diagnostics, herbal pharmacology, anatomy, pathology, chemistry, biochemistry and physiology. They combine both traditional uses of herbal medicine with scientifically proven herbal preparations and other natural therapies such as lifestyle and diet advice.

How does herbal medicine work?

The primary factors are:

• Herbal constituents known as phytochemicals: such as polyphenols, anthraquinones and amines


• The energetics that each plant provides e.g. whether it's warming, cooling, dispersing, moistening


• Nutrients contained within the plant: vitamins, minerals, proteins, sugars and lipids
