Questions & Answers

Do I need a referral?
No. Although we receive many referrals from GPs, other chiropractors, midwives, health centre nurses and other health professionals (masseurs, podiatrists, acupuncturists, etc), most of our referrals come from our satisfied and happy patients.

Is chiropractic covered under Medicare?
Most people may be eligible for up to 5 visits per year under a care plan.  These visits are bulk billed at our clinic.   Please contact the clinic or your GP to discuss this further.

Is Chiropractic covered by Private Health Insurance?
Yes. Most health insurance policies with extras will contribute towards your care. Please contact your insurer for more details. We also offer the HICAPS system, so bring your health insurance card and all you will need to do is pay the gap.

Are you a Members Choice provider for Medibank?

Yes, all our chiropractic practitioners are members.

Are you a Members' First provider for BUPA

Yes, all our chiropractic practitioners are members.

What is an adjustment?
A Chiropractic adjustment involves the application of a specific force, in a precise direction helping to restore movement in a poorly functioning joint. Adjustments are extremely safe and effective in enhancing movement, and optimising nervous system function. There are numerous ways to adjust the spine. Your Chiropractor will discuss these methods with you and recommend a technique most suited to you.

What is that popping sound?
The popping sound is a release of gas, caused by a change of pressure in the joint when it is adjusted. Most importantly, it usually doesn't hurt and it is NOT the bones cracking! Some techniques do not produce any popping sounds.  If you prefer to have very light treatments then let us know when you get your treatment.

How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments varies from patient to patient. This all depends on your presenting complaint, your health and lifestyle habits. Some people seek Chiropractic care purely for pain relief, whilst others choose to have ongoing care for their posture or other spinal health problems.

Can I combine massage therapy with chiropractic treatment?
Massage and chiropractic work very well together. You can benefit in a number of ways by adding massage therapy to your chiropractic care program. Recovery is normally faster and more complete when you treat the soft tissues like muscles and ligaments with the chiropractic adjustment.

Chiropractic treatment often proceeds more easily, with less discomfort, when soft tissues have been relaxed with massage. You may be less anxious and more ready to receive chiropractic adjustment after a relaxing massage. Adjustments frequently last longer when muscle tension is released that might otherwise pull your joints out of alignment again.

Custom made Foot Levellers Orthotics and Stabilisers now in Hoppers Crossing, Pt Cook and Werribee

Since 1952, the Foot Levelers laboratory have been developing a range of Spinal Pelvic Stabilisers to suit every situation. Each Stabiliser is custom-made to support all three arches of the foot creating a balanced foundation. That means that no matter which Stabiliser you choose, you can get optimal results to satisfy you and your patients.

Patients with certain types of spinal problems benefit from custom made orthotic support. These devices stabilize the foundation of the pelvis and spine by first addressing structural problems with the feet, thereby reducing abnormal forces and stresses, while enhancing structural and functional relationships.

A loss of arch height will cause a flattening and rolling in of the foot this is termed pronation. Because everything is connected, the bones of the leg also inwardly rotate.

Excessive rotation of the bones of the leg (tibia and femur) will cause unnecessary stresses on the knee as well as twisting of the pelvis and spine. If the pronation is more prevalent on one side, there can be a resultant unleveling of the pelvis and a functional scoliosis.

Tilting of the pelvis places tension on muscles and connective tissues, which can eventually lead to chronic back problems.

Benefits of Spinal Pelvic Stabilizers:

Properly fitted Spinal Pelvic Stabilizers support the foot to control excessive and unwanted pronation and supination. This helps to reduce unwanted stress on the body.

Improved shock absorption reduces repetitive stress on joints and muscles, permitting smoother function and decreasing arthritic symptoms.

Use of Spinal Pelvic Stabilizers represents a long-term, yet cost-effective intervention for many types of functional and structural problems.

How Spinal Pelvic Stabilizers Work:

Wearing Spinal Pelvic Stabilizers inside your shoes is similar to placing a shim beneath the leg of a wobbly table: it adds support to eliminate unwanted motion in the entire structure.

The foot is formed of three distinct arches, which create an architectural vault. The result of supporting these three arches is improved stability and postural integrity.

Flexible Spinal Pelvic Stabilizers encourage optimal muscle and nerve function by guiding the feet through a more normal pattern with each step taken.

If you wish to see a chiropractor or receive a foot scan to see the shape of your feet, just phone our clinic on 9748 6666 and one of the doctors will be able to do the scan and then discuss whether they will suit your problem.
