Chi, Balance and Disease

Traditional Chinese Medicine originated in ancient China and has been used for thousands of years to focus on both of improvement of the overall well being and treatment of a variety of diseases. According to Chinese medical theory, the most basic substance constituting the world is a form of energy, an idea that is proved in modern physics. The Chinese word for this energy is chi (also spelled 'qi'). Accordingly, the most fundamental substance in the construction of the human body and in the maintenance of its life activities is chi; the major currents of chi flow in pathways called meridians. Along these meridians lie points where the chi can be easily influenced. If the chi is out of balance, pain or illness will result. When the chi is in balance, the person will enjoy abundant health. Acupuncturist uses subtle diagnostic techniques to detect disturbances of the chi. Fine needles are then inserted at specific points on the body to re-establish the correct balance of energy. When this is done, the body is empowered to heal itself. Therefore, the primary function of Acupuncture is to restore or preserve health by correcting imbalances in the energy field of the body. A mental and physical equilibrium is then established which enhances a person's sense of well-being, and helps to fight disease. The beauty of such a system of medicine lies in the fact that physical and mental imbalances can be detected and treated before they become clinically-manifestable diseases. In ancient China, Acupuncture was used as a form of preventative medicine. Acupuncture also treats disease once it has become manifest. As a natural form of health care, Acupuncture is effective in the drug-free treatment of a wide range of common health conditions, and it can also provides a holistic approach to the treatment of disease and illness, linking body, mind and emotion. In fact, the World Health Organization lists over 40 types of disease Acupuncture can help.

So why wait till we are sick? It makes sense to create in ourselves a salutary balance, a mental and physical equilibrium that gives to our lives the grace and beauty of a work of art.

Treat the whole body instead of individual symptom/disease

Traditional Chinese Medicine treats every person from a holistic point of view instead of treating individual disease. Based on the Yin, Yang and Balance, Imbalance theory, each person manifests as one or a couple of Pattern of Condition(s). Diseases may be completely different based on Western Medicine. However, according to Traditional Chinese Medicine, they may fall into a same Pattern of Condition. Therefore, by treating the Patterns and optimizing the flow of Chi throughout the whole body, better, longer lasting results are expected to achieve. It also enables me to address multiple Western Medicine symptoms at once. Moreover, as I have formal training in Western Medicine, I will incorporate my knowledge and expertises in Western Medicine to utmostly help my patients.
