What can my DNA tell me?

Trying to make the correct choice about the right foods to eat and the right diet is more confusing than ever. What genetic profiling is clearly demonstrating is that the right foods and the right diet for you, is dependent upon your underlying genetics. We are entering the realm of personalised health and the implications and benefits of this are enormous. It will change how we assess and manage our health, wellbeing and diet.

DNA profiling is no longer confined within the walls of research laboratories. Current research is telling us that supplements, foods, dietary, exercise and lifestyle habits will help us manipulate gene expression to enhance our health.

You cannot change your genes but you can change the expression of your genes. If a particular gene has benefits for health, then you can turn up the expression of the gene. If the gene is detrimental to your health you want to turn down the expression of the gene.

The iDNA Health philosophy is to focus on identifying those genes that support health and wellbeing and that can be favourably modified by better health choices. Fitgenes genetic profiling is not focused on predicting risk to specific diseases but rather to inform and empower people to make better lifestyle choices - DNA profiling will enable the focus of health care to move from disease-based to prevention-based.

iDNA Health DNA test

iDNA Health offer a 53 gene panel test which covers the following areas:

  • Inflammation and anti-inflammation
  • Anti-oxidants
  • Detox
  • Cardiovascular including methylation, blood pressure and vascular tone
  • Weight including fat metabolism, energy metabolism, thermogenesis and cholesterol
  • Vitamin D

A DNA test is taken by a swab rubbed against the inside of your cheek which can be done at the clinic without a consult. Easy and painless.

Once you have your report, you will book an appointment with one of our DNA certified practitioners at the clinic who will be able to analyse your DNA profile. Our Practitioners can then design a targeted program of nutrition, exercise and life style choices to specifically suit your health goals.

iDNA Health programs are not one size fits all. They are personalised by your iDNA Health Certified Practitioner no matter your age, gender or desired health goals and are based on the science of how nutrition, exercise and lifestyle choices interact with genetics to influence how effectively your body is functioning.

AMY 1 Gene

Confused about Carbs? Your AMY 1 Gene can give you valuable information.

What is AMY 1 Gene
AMY 1 is a gene that produces amylase which is found in our saliva and plays a major role in the digestion of starch, which is a carbohydrate found in grains, legumes, fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds. Amylase begins the process of carbohydrate metabolism in the mouth. 50% of bread starch and 25% of pasta starch is broken down during the chewing time of 19 to 27 seconds.

Test your AMY 1 Gene to help you understand:
- are you 800% more likely to be overweight or obese
- how effectively do you metabolise and tolerate carbohydrates
- do carbohydrates put you at an increased risk of having diabetes
- how many grams of carbohydrates can you eat per day
- what type of carbohydrates should you avoid
- how effectively do you use your carbohydrates for energy

For more information or to book in your AMY 1 Gene test please contact Client Services on 08 6102 0054.

iDNA Health for 23 and me

If you have had DNA gene testing by 23andme and would like reports to understand the results and support from a DNA Certified Practitioner, iDNA Health are able to import your results and generate iDNA Health 23andme Reports for you. These reports will then be used by our practitioner to design your program.

*Please note there are 10 genes which iDNA Health test which are not covered in the 23andme test so these will not be included in your iDNA Health 23andme reports. The reason is that iDNA Health have selected genes which can be modified by better health choices.

The iDNA Health program acknowledges that genetics cant be changed. Instead, compensating for their effect is the key to managing their influence.
