What is Qigong?
Qigong is an ancient form of moving and exercise meditation developed more than 2000 years ago for building energy, health and longevity. The various exercises balance and harmonise our natural breathing to enhance circulation of blood, energy (QI) and oxygen to all areas of the body. Literally translated the Chinese character Qi is the breath or air and Gong means discipline or study. Thus Qigong is about learning to enhance and control the Qi flow to enhance wellbeing and health. When Qigong is undertaken the exercises can improve, coordination, flexibility, mental, physical and emotional balance, breathing efficiency and the flow of blood and immune function.
What is Tai Chi?
Tai Chi is a type of Qigong that has been developed to have self-defence or martial art applications. Similar to Qigong, all movements are balanced with the breath and are soft and circular in nature. The various advantages of that can be gained through Qigong can also be secured through Tai Chi practice. Tai Chi is able to be done purely for the many health benefits that it provides or it can be made into a highly useful sense defence system for individuals of all ages.
