Did you know changing your thought and behaviour patterns gives you the power to cope with any challenges that life throws your way?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy & CBT Supervision

What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy?

New Chapters in St Helens Park NSW provides cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), a type of psychological therapy that helps you cope with your problems more effectively by altering your belief system and behaviour patterns.

CBT is often employed in therapy sessions aimed at treating anxiety and depression, but it can also treat other psychological and physical ailments.

Different psychotherapy approaches are applied in a CBT session to address an individual’s thoughts, emotions, behaviours and habits, which are believed to be connected to each other.

Undergoing this type of therapy gives you the capacity to identify self-limiting beliefs and behaviours that stand between you and your goals.

It’s important to note that while cognitive behavioural therapy may take your past experiences into account during the assessment stage and development of a treatment plan, it mainly focuses on your current problems.

How Does It Work?

A CBT session usually entails 6 to 20 sessions depending on the condition that you’re seeking treatment for and the goals you want to achieve.

Each session lasts 50 minutes in duration. During which, you and your therapist will work together to identify thought and behaviour patterns that are affecting your life in a negative way. These patterns include ideas about yourself and the world.

Once you have identified these patterns, your therapist will present helpful tools and strategies that will enable you to shift them into a positive set of beliefs and actions.

Cognitive behaviour therapy produces lasting results when it’s practiced regularly and integrated into your lifestyle. Having said that, it’s important to commit to change what needs to be changed during and after your therapy sessions.
