What happens in a treatment:

When you arrive you will be asked to fill in a confidential medical history form as I need to know if you have any medical conditions or are taking any medications.

Discuss with me any areas of pain and discomfort so I can develop a treatment plan with you to ensure you receive appropriate treatment that will help you return, as much as possible, to your normal activities.

You then lay on the table and cover yourself with the towels provided. Only the area being worked on will be exposed.

At all times you are in control, if you experience any discomfort, let me know immediately.

Benefits of Massage:

Some benefits of massage are:

- Helps relieve stress and aids relaxation
- Reduces muscles spasms
- Reduces blood pressure
- Improves circulation
- Provides greater joint flexibility and range of motion
- Strengthens the immune system
- Relieves tension headaches
- Enhances well being

Massage therapy supports and speeds up the body's own repair mechanisms

Swedish Massage: consists of firm smooth flowing strokes that provide the deep relaxation that allows our minds and bodies to recharge and rejuvenate.

Remedial Massage: is deeper and uses several specialised techniques such as Deep Tissue, Trigger Point Therapy and PNF stretching to locate and repair damage to muscles, tendons and joints. This massage is tailored for each individuals needs to ultimately heal or improve the underlying problem and is great for sports injuries or that niggling pain that just won’t go away.

Trigger Point [TP]: A trigger point is a hyperirritable spot that is painful. It is called a trigger point because it "triggers" a painful response. It affects not only the muscle where the trigger point is located, but also causes "referred pain" in tissues supplied by nerves.

Trigger points are located in a taut band of muscles fibers. The trigger point is the most tender point in the band. The therapist will locate and deactivate them using finger pressure. One technique is to pick up the muscle fibers in a pincer grip

Myofascial Release: is not massage. The techniques consist of slow, gentle, prolonged force in the form of stretching and compression which focuses on the fascial system of the body to release tension and constrictions or blockages and restore movement.

Fascia or connective tissue provides support for the body as it covers and connects muscles, organs and skeletal structures. Injury, stress, illness, trauma or poor posture can all cause restrictions in fascia. Ultimately, myofascial release restores complete balance back to the body.

Reflexology:
is based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet and hands that correspond to specific organs, glands, and other parts of the body. By stimulating and applying pressure to the feet or hands, you are increasing circulation and promoting specific bodily and muscular functions.

Reflexology promotes relaxation, improves circulation, reduces pain, soothes tired feet, and encourages overall healing.

Reiki (pronounced ray-key):
Reiki is a Japanese form of healing which is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It involves the transfer of energy from practitioner to patient to enhance the body's natural ability to heal itself through the balancing of energy.

Rei - means universal. It is the higher wisdom or force that guides all creation and function of the universe.
Ki - means vital life force energy.

In a treament you simply lay fully clothed on the couch and relax. If you are unable to lie down the treatment can be given in a sitting position, the main thing is for you to be as comfortable as possible. I will gently place my hands non-intrusively on or above you in a sequence of positions which cover the whole body. Reiki can normally be felt as a warm sensation or tingling in the body.

A full treatment usually takes 1 to 1½ hours with each position held for several minutes.
