The Kahuna Training Guild keeps an up to date Registry and Directory of Qualified Therapists, Practitioners, Students and Teachers of Kahuna Bodywork, Kahuna Massage and Kahuna Sciences.

The Kahuna Training Guild Australia was originally endorsed by (Kahu) Abraham Kawai'i, Kahuna, in 2001.

(Kahu) Abraham Kawai'i is the Source of all Kahuna Bodywork Training in Western Society outside of Hawai'i, and is acknowledged as such by all Guild members.

Why are we here?

Kahuna Bodywork has been available in Australia since 1989, when (Kahu) Abraham Kawai'i, Kahuna from Hawai'i, came to Australia the first time to introduce the training.

A Kahuna Bodywork Performer goes through years of Kahuna Training, yet has not been eligible to join massage or natural therapy associations. Kahuna Bodywork clients could not get their health fund benefits, because a Kahuna Bodyworker is not a remedial massage therapist.

Although any Kahuna Bodywork client will attest to the effectiveness of the work, there has been no acknowledgement by insurance companies and health funds.

The Guild has been created out of a need for a Kahuna Sciences industry association as a point of reference for Kahuna Bodyworkers and teachers.

The Guild provides for its practicing members:
  • provider numbers
  • access to insurance cover
  • access to health fund returns for clients
  • continued education opportunities
  • quality control via Codes of Ethics and Practice
  • complaint procedures
  • access to first aid updates
  • advice
  • research
The members login provides a forum where members can share views and experiences, and discuss anything they wish.

Guild Ethics

The success of our members as Kahuna Bodywork performers is reflecting the high standard of training delivery of Guild approved Kahuna Bodywork schools. Emphasis is on Kahuna Excellence Standards and commitment to continued Self development.

Co-operation amongst Guild members has proven to lift the standard of what is known in Australia as Kahuna Bodywork.

There is more work to be done to eliminate the misconception that Kahuna Bodywork is equivalent to lomilomi or that it can be taught by people not trained in Kahuna training methods by Kahu Abraham Kawai'i, Kahuna, or through the training lineage as permitted by Kahu himself.

"Although a high standard of morality gives but a slight or no advantage to each individual man and his children over the men of the same tribe... an advancement in the standard of morality will certainly give an immense advantage to one tribe over another."
From The Descent of Man, 1871, Charles Darwin.
