Neuro-Linguistic Programming - What is NLP?

As the name suggests the three most influential components involved in producing human experience: neurology, language and programming. The neurological system regulates how our bodies’ function, language determines how we communicate and interface and communicate with other people and our programming determines the kinds of models of the world that we create. Neuro-Linguistic Programming describes the fundamental dynamics between mind (neuro) and language (linguistic) and how their interplay affects our body and behaviour (programming).

NLP is a pragmatic school of thought – an ‘epistemology’ – that concentrates on the many levels involved in being human and is a multi-dimensional process, it provides skills and tools for the development of states of personal excellence and also establishes a system of empowering beliefs and presuppositions about what ‘human’ beings are, what communication is what the process of change is all about. At another level, NLP is about self-discovery, exploring mission and identity. It also provides a framework for understanding and relating to the ‘spiritual’ part of human experience that stretches beyond us all to our community, family and global systems. NLP is not only about excellence and competence, it is about vision and wisdom.

Timeline Therapy

Who are we but a collection of our memories? For many years, psychologists have agreed that our past experiences do determine who we are and how we act. Memories are stored and recorded as we grow older and with time, they begin to have more and more influence. Our Time Line is the memory coding of the brain. It is how people encode and store their memories. Otherwise, how would you know the difference between a past memory and a future dream?

Within these timelines are also decisions we have made about ourselves and the world, deep filters (unconscious) that shape our perception, values (our engine), attitudes and beliefs. Our decisions, memories, our experiences bad and good are collected here over time and determine how we relate to the world. How we store our memories affect how we experience our lived and how we experience time.
