Karen has an extensive professional background working with clients from a wide range of cultures and personal circumstances.

Her experience in counselling began in 1999, working with individuals, couples and families providing counselling, psychotherapy, mediation, conflict management, and family dispute resolution.

She’s been involved in the training, assessment and supervision of fellow counsellors and facilitated therapeutic and educational groups for adults.

Karen has also worked with children and adolescents as a child and family therapist, primarily in post-separation counselling.

She has a profound interest and successfully worked on complex cases (trauma, dissociation, personality disorders) that have not responded to former treatments.

Karen uses the Conversational Model of Psychotherapy to treat a broad range of disorders. This model integrates aspects of developmental psychology, neuroscience, linguistics and is used to treat the “disorders of the self” that are considered “untreatable”.

She provides short, medium and long-term counselling and psychotherapy for individuals, couples and families for a range of issues including:

  • Grief & Loss
  • Relationship problems
  • Individual growth
  • Life and career transitions
  • Separation or divorce
  • Retirement/empty nest

  • Guilt & shame
  • Lack of confidence, self-esteem
  • Lack of life direction

  • Parenting after separation & divorce
  • Personality Disorders (borderline personality disorder)

Theoretical Approach

Karen combines several theoretical approaches in her practice, depending on each client’s individual needs.

She’s a psychodynamic therapist, who draws upon a wide range of therapeutic modalities to help make sense of the unhelpful.

Overall, Karen’s approach is collaborative and supportive. She offers a safe, confidential, non-judgmental space for an authentic face-to-face conversation with clients.

Everything the client brings to the conversation is treated with confidentiality, respect, compassion, and sensitivity.
