Mindfulness
Our modern lives are often quite frantic and busy and thus it is important to take some time for ourselves and yet we feel guilty or under immense amounts of pressure to continue working or caring for others.
What did I do to change and help to prioritise myself? I took part in a Mindfulness course that would help me to focus on the ‘present’ moment. By working in small concentrated groups, following the key principles of Mindfulness practices and building this into my everyday routine I am now able to:
- Highlight key emotions;
- Understand that emotions pass;
- Incorporate simple structures to calm my emotional and physical reactions;
- Understand my unique triggers and how to move forward in an effective and positive manner.
After the completion of this course I discovered that Mindfulness operates on two levels. The first is that core meditations and the second is the breaking of unconscious habits of behaving and thinking, especially the judgemental and self-critical thoughts we utilise in our everyday routines which can lead us to lose confidence and to become irritable, stressed, or anxious.
