What is Naturopathy?

“Natural forces within us are the true healers of disease”
(Hippocrates)

Naturopathy is a holistic approach to wellness that emphasises disease prevention and the body’s self-healing process. Treatment focuses on identifying and addressing the underlying causes of disease.

Every person is different, every body is different.

Naturopathic principles are based on the individual, treating the whole person, Mind, Body and Spirit, not just the affected area. In fact the word ‘healing’ has its roots in the Greek word holos meaning whole.

I have been in clinical practice for 6 years. My clinical process involves discovering and addressing the cause of illness, and stimulating and supporting the body’s natural healing forces. I do this through deep conversations, looking at what stories your own body tells me – from your blood, your eyes, your nails, your tongue and your skin. I use fresh capillary blood testing to uncover how your cells are responding to what your body is experiencing. I draw from a large canvas in making the necessary connections to find the cause of ‘dis-ease’ in the body.

Herbal Medicine

There is nothing new about the use of herbs to promote recovery, health and wellbeing. Every ancient culture has or had its own herbal healing practices. The range of flora and fauna may have varied from area to area but the conditions treated were the same. Modern medicine, as we know it today, has its roots in the use of herbal medicine. For instance Hippocrates prescribed willow tree bark for headaches 2,4000 years ago. Salicylic acid, the active ingredient in aspirin was isolated from the bark of the willow tree in 1763.

Western herbal medicines can be used to treat acute and chronic conditions, as well as supporting the general health and vitality of the body. They can be taken in concentrated liquid tincture form, as herbal teas, in baths, creams and ointments and in food and cooking (in fact ginger in tonight’s stir fry is a herbal medicine).

Clinical Nutrition

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”
(Hippocrates)

Through the use of specific whole foods and nutritional supplementation many health problems can be reversed. During the consultation I take a detailed look at your diet and give recommendations that are both effective and realistic for your goals and lifestyle.

Further diagnostic testing

Where relevant, Katrina will carry out and/or refer you for further diagnostic testing. This may include blood pathology, urine and stool analysis, allergy testing, salivary hormone testing.

Testimonial

I have been seeing Katrina for over 6 Years. Initially my biggest health issue was the onset of Diabetes 2. I didn’t want to take Metformin, which my GP was prescribing, so Katrina helped me change my diet and include some supplements to support my pancreas. For 5 years I have kept my blood sugar levels in normal range and have been able to “reverse” the diabetes diagnosis, much to the surprise and delight of my GP and Endocrinologist!

Two years ago I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, a debilitating autoimmune disease. Again I consulted Katrina who suggested dietary changes and take some appropriate supplements. My thyroid is now functioning within a normal range and again my doctors are shocked and amazed!

I cannot recommend Katrina’s practice highly enough. Her integrated approach has enabled me to work with my GP and specialists to demonstrate to them that diet and supplements work. Katrina listens to my concerns and has supported me in a professional and caring manner. Don’t hesitate to make contact with Katrina to discuss your health concerns. You won’t be disappointed!
