About

Hi, my name is Kerri and I have been a practising naturopath and medical herbalist for over 15 years. I’m also a devoted mum of two very busy and vibrant boys, a wife, a passionate cook, gardener, meditator and devourer of many books.

I was inspired to become a naturopath, and especially an herbalist, after seeing a very talented and compassionate naturopath myself. I was highly stressed and had terrible irritable bowel syndrome, food allergies, headaches and anxiety. After a number of months of treatment which included herbal medicines, dietary changes, meditation and tonnes and tonnes of slippery elm powder, I got better. It was through my own journey that I realised that I wanted to do the same for others, and why I also have a particular interest and love of treating digestive disorders of all kinds.

As a naturopath, I believe that I have the best of both worlds as I'm able to draw on the richness of centuries of herbal medicine knowledge as well as on rigorous modern scientific research based clinical trials, so allowing me to make the most informed and best clinical decisions I can for my clients. I'm passionate about herbal medicine and find it endlessly interesting and exciting, especially as scientific trials always seem to further validate what traditional knowledge has always taught about herbal medicines. I also love reading and learning about the newest findings so you will often find me either heading off to a seminar, researching something for a client or completing a university assignment.

My gorgeous little clinic is situated in the beautiful bushland suburb of Hornsby Heights on Sydney's North Shore, where it offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Here you will find tranquillity and a place you may come to be nurtured, supported and empowered on your journey.

Winter is coming!

Yes it is and I love it! Most people I know think I’m mad for loving winter so much, but honestly I love the slightly heavy feeling of snuggly winter clothes, long skirts, boots and a long leather jacket. I love the feeling of cold on my nose and the wisps of condensation on my breath while walking out in the cool crisp morning. I love how the cold makes us cuddle those we love just a little longer in the mornings before getting out of a warm bed. Winter brings so many different joys to the warmer months, but usually the reason most people dislike winter so much is because this is the time of year that most people get sick. So I thought I would share some of my favourite home remedies for those times when a dreaded cold has found us.

Make a pot of delicious chicken soup with chilli, ginger and garlic in it. Not only does this beautiful nourishing bowl of soup give your body the nutrients that it needs to be well, but the addition of chilli, ginger and garlic lend their heating, antibiotic and immune stimulating properties to the soup, so allowing your food to become your medicine. Just the way I like it!

Stay well hydrated and drink herbal teas especially a combination of echinacea, elder flower and peppermint. This combination will support the body in ridding itself of the virus and allow the fever to come up, so that it can do the job it is meant to do and help the body to maximise the function of the immune system.

Take a good quality Echinacea or Andrographis supplement to boost your immunity, improve your recovery time and reduce the possibility of the cold progressing onto something worse.

Take a garlic supplement. Garlic has been used since ancient Greece and has numerous healing properties, is natural antibiotic and boosts immunity so add it to your casseroles, soups and meals while you are sick, or even when you feel a cold coming on. You can also take a high dose vitamin C and zinc supplement to further support the body’s defences.

Make raw honey and lemon tea for a sore throat or cough. Honey can be taken on a spoon to soothe a sore throat, or if you can, find some raw honey with honeycomb in it which can be chewed for a soothing effect.

Most of all, rest, keep warm, rest and rest some more. Please listen to your body and call work to let them know that you are going to stay home for a couple of days so that you can rest, sleep and just take good and gentle care of yourself. And honestly not only are you doing yourself a favour by staying home and getting better faster, but you work mates will thank you for not spreading the virus through the rest of the office.

Herbal medicines are also a great way to get on top of a cold or cough quickly and will allow you to overcome the symptoms, boost your body’s immunity and often avoid taking antibiotics. Talk to your naturopath about using liquid herbal medicines in a formula made specifically for your symptoms.

Stay well xx
