Lachlan McDonald Chinese Medicine in Mount Eliza, Victoria, may be just what you're looking for. Lachlan began his path to becoming a Chinese Medicine practitioner by working as a social worker in Melbourne's inner southern suburbs for several years. Being naturally restless, he began looking for a different way to help people after a few years.

He had been exposed to acupuncture as a child by his family's GP, but had never really tried it until his hay fever became unbearable in his early twenties, when he decided to give it a shot and has never looked back. Lachlan had always been fascinated by East Asian philosophy, and the practicality and simplicity of Chinese medicine piqued his interest. As a result, a new career was born…

Lachlan's work as a social worker has given him a strong interest in treating mental health issues. He has a thorough understanding of the consequences that stress can have on a person and what it can lead to if left unchecked for an extended period of time. Chinese medicine provides a powerful and effective approach to gaining back your life's balance.

A firm believer in the holistic approach, which takes into account all aspects of your health, body and lifestyle when developing a treatment plan, Lachlan takes the time to talk to you and learn about how your work and home life may be affecting you. He looks into your diet, sleep habits and exercise regimen, all with the goal of getting you back to where you want to be as soon as possible. This is the information that will help you achieve lasting results.

Lachlan completed a four-year bachelor's degree in Chinese Medicine, which included internships at an alcohol and drug rehabilitation facility and a community health clinic. He has since expanded his knowledge through specialised training in mental and emotional health, as well as musculoskeletal conditions, and has completed a clinical internship in Beijing with acclaimed acupuncturist Dr. Wang Ju-Yi.

FAQs About Acupuncture

What is acupuncture?

Known as one of the oldest healing practices in the world, acupuncture uses very fine needles that are painlessly inserted into various areas of the body to help regain balance and minimise pain. Heat therapy, cupping and massage are common modalities used in conjunction with acupuncture.

Is acupuncture painful? Are there any negative effects?

Acupuncture has been shown in recent research to be effective in treating a variety of conditions such as stress and mental health issues, headaches and migraines, pain and musculoskeletal conditions, gastrointestinal complaints, and reproductive and gynaecological issues.

What exactly is the distinction between acupuncture and dry needling?

Acupuncture and dry needling both use fine needles placed at specific points on the body. Dry needling, also known as trigger point therapy, is a technique for treating sports injuries that involves inserting a needle into a tight muscle area. Acupuncturists refer to this as "Ashi" needling, but it is the same technique. Acupuncture, on the other hand, can incorporate a wider variety of acupuncture points spread right across the body to achieve more significant results than simply treating the local area of pain.

Lachlan is a registered provider with most major Australian private health funds, so you can claim rebates for the treatments he provides.
