What Is Pilates?

The Pilates Method is a holistic exercise programme which rebalances and fine tunes your body. The Pilates Method will enhance your quality of life, improving your strength, flexibility, posture, body awareness and stamina.

The method is based on the correct facilitation and endurance of the stabilising muscles throughout the body. This along with a strong focus on good posture and body awareness makes Pilates an excellent programme for general health and injury prevention as well as for rehabilitation.

Who Can Benefit From Pilates?

Pilates has a great deal to offer to a broad range of people. From the pregnant woman to the growing adolescent, to the person who hasn’t exercised for years, to the elite athlete.

If injured, the Pilates exercise workout will address the problem areas or injury while also maintaining condition for the rest of the body. Alternatively, if an injury is acute and needs to be rested, one can keep the rest of the body in condition while the injured area heals.

Why Try Pilates?

The medical profession has recognised Pilates exercises because of its strong focus on developing good proximal (core) stability around the shoulder and pelvic girdles. The current ongoing research into abdominal stabilisation for low back pain patients continues to substantiate the principles upon which the Pilates method is based.

When instructed by a qualified instructor on an individual or semi individual basis, Pilates is a safe and effective exercise programme for many injuries and conditions including low back pain.

Why Come To Our Studio?

At Leeon Studio Pilates we work on a staff : client ratio of 1:4 (One instructor can have up to 4 clients) to ensure the closest supervision and that the programme will be tailored to your individual needs. We also offer private one on one sessions if you would like our undivided attention.

For those wishing to exercise in a group environment small group matwork (matwork) or equipment classes (allegro) may be appropriate. It is important to note that we only advise these small group classes for uninjured people. Your instructor will guide you through a series of Pilates exercises according to the level of the class. All our staff are certified by the APMA (Australian Pilates Method Association) and/or BASI, Polestar, Pilates Int and STOTT (International certifications). Some instructors have multiple certifications and University degrees. All staff undertake regular continuing education to keep abreast with current research and developments in the Pilates Profession.

Studio Pilates

What To Expect

You start with an initial assessment. This is a 1 hour private session. If you are injured we recommend a 1.5 hour assessment. We will examine your history and ask about your exercise goals. We will then guide you through a Pilates workout where we will assess your physical condition. This process will enable us to design a programme to best suit your needs.

After this first session, you can either continue with a few more private sessions or slot into our regular 4:1 sessions, where there is one instructor guiding up to 4 people through their workout. You will always be guided, monitored and progressed as you strengthen and improve.

Why Try Pilates At Our Studio?

We have fully equipped and modern facilities. In the studio we perform some exercises on the mat and some on Pilates equipment. We emphasise “core stabilisation” which is essential in giving support to the joints and forms the basis of your strength as well as your back care. As appropriate, we will work on your strength, flexibility, posture, stamina, control and body awareness using the large variety of imaginative and invigorating exercises that Pilates has to offer.

Allegro Pilates - Group Equipment Classes

Available at Neutral Bay Only


“Allegro” to move briskly…….at a faster pace.

These classes provide a more cardio vascular element to your Pilates workout.
  • Conducted in small groups of 9
  • Use of personal reformer for 1 hour class. We also use other peices of Pilates equipment such as magic circles, bands, balls, rollers, jump boards and free form boards
  • Continuously moving, easy to follow routines
  • Exercising your entire body from head to toe
  • Instructor demonstration with some hands on supervision
  • Allegro is designed to help improve muscle endurance, stamina, circulation and fluidity of movement

Please Note: Allegro Pilates is not appropriate for those who are injured or in pain. In these cases we recommend you do Studio Pilates where your individual needs can be specifically catered for.

Mother & Baby Pilates

Available at both Neutral Bay & Strathfield Studios


These classes are intended to be a time for new Mums to exercise and re gain their strength after child birth. We welcome you to bring your baby with you. (Newborn babies to pre crawlers only). Your baby can lie next to you on a baby blanket, or sleep or lie in their pram.

We require a minimum of 5 people committing for a 5 week period for a class to run. If your mothers group would like to attend as a group, then give us a call and we will organise some classes for you. If you would like to come as an individual, then you may be able to join in with another group. So give us a call and we will try and accommodate your needs.
