About Lisa Paul

Hi there,

First and foremost – Congratulations !

Taking this step to finding someone to help you is a big decision and an incredibly brave one, so I applaud you.

The therapy journey can at times be a bit rough and this is where I can help you the most. It is a journey that you do not need to do on your own.

One step at a time – one day at a time. It does get better. There will be work for you to do and I will support you as you need.

True healing comes from within, it is not something that is done for you. It is your work and the satisfaction for you will be enormous.

You’ve got this…………and together we will work through it.

So now, let me tell you a little bit about me.

I have worked for over 20 years as a Registered Nurse and Midwife. It has given me a vast range of experience for which I am very grateful. I have pretty much seen it all – the joyful times and the most hurtful times.

I have also had my own experiences of childbirth – becoming a mother, which has provided me with a very rounded view of it all.

I trained to become a Calmbirth practitioner and this is where my interest in the psychological side of birth began. It made me a more “complete” midwife, as I now recognise just how important our experiences are, how they affect families and babies…..and so on.

Through this understanding, I became passionate about Birth Trauma and that drove my career off into another direction – Counselling & Psychotherapy.

After completing my studies, I went into private practice.

I have be trained in a range of theories and therapies however in the end, it really comes down to you………what is going to work for you. We are all different and our needs are different, so I initially spend time getting to know you, finding out what you want to achieve, and then I formulate a plan with you and we can set some goals, which we will continue to review as we work together to achieve those goals.

You can be assured of being in a safe, private, supportive and non-judgemental environment which is the basis of all our confidential conversations. These sessions are for you – to verbalize, explore and ultimately find some resolution so that you can find the joy again in being you.

I really do look forward to working with you.

Lisa 🙂

Counselling/Psychotherapy:

Counselling/Psychotherapy is a therapeutic relationship which is developed between a qualified counsellor/psychotherapist and the client, with the aim to help you deal with and overcome issues that are causing emotional pain or making you feel uncomfortable. It can provide a safe and regular space for you to talk and explore your feelings. Lisa is there to support you and respect your views and help you to find your own insights and understanding into your problems. By discussing your concerns with you, Lisa can help you gain a better understanding of your feelings and thought processes, as well as identifying ways of finding your own solutions to problems. It can be a great relief to share your worries and fears with someone who acknowledges your feelings and is able to help you reach a positive solution.

Areas that Lisa focuses on include:
  • Grief and Loss – including all losses (miscarriage, infertility, stillbirth etc)

  • Trauma - including Birth Trauma

  • Perinatal Mental Health - Depression and Anxiety in pregnancy.

Calmbirth Prenatal Classes

Calmbirth is a childbirth education class developed by Australian Midwife Peter Jackson. Based on scientific research, Calmbirth brings together both a body/mind approach to birth. The goal of Calmbirth is to empower couples in their understanding of the birth process and to give them the confidence to aim for a positive pregnancy and birth experience.

Ideal for couples who are experiencing a lot of apprehension, fear, trauma (from previous birth) or just for couples who want to gain as much information as possible.

Recommended by Midwives and Obstetricians.

Circle of Security - Parenting

Circle of Security is an internationally recognized evidence based program which draws from 50 years of research into attachment. It is run over 4 weeks as a group for parents or carers with babies and toddlers. The group is designed to enhance the bond and sense of security for both parent and infant in their relationship by:
• Giving parents a road map as a way to better understand their children’s needs.
• Inviting parents to reflect on their own experiences of being parented and how it impacts on their parenting.
• Providing an environment where parents can focus on their strengths and struggles and benefit from the experience of sharing with other parents.

With the enormous pressure on couples to be the “perfect parent”, Circle of Security Parenting is focused more on being a “good enough parent” which creates a far better environment for children growing up.

If you are interested in becoming more attuned and creating a positive relationship with your child or if you just need help with this whole parenting thing, this course can help you.
