Along with Shiatsu I also practice the ancient arts of Moxibustion and Cupping therapy. Moxibustion (or just Moxa for short) is a treatment that pre-dates acupuncture and yet uses the same theory and points. Instead of needles being inserted into the points a mild heat produced by the burning of a medicinal herb (Mugwort) is applied to the points. This has an energizing and healing effect similar to needling and is great for people who can’t stand needles but want a similar effect.

Cupping therapy has been used by many ancient civilizations from the Greeks and Romans all the way through Asia. By using suction cups over the tissue we are moving stagnant Blood and Chi (energy) in the area, both of which can cause both acute and chronic pain. It also relieves pressure on joints and tissue by “lifting” the tissue rather than having massage or finger pressure which can sometimes cause more pain. This is one of the best treatments for stubborn, chronic pain conditions that I have come across.
