Why is Touch important?

Touch

From the time we are in the womb through our elderly years, touch plays a primary role in our development, physical and mental well-being. When we are born, the first one of our senses available to us is the sense of touch. Even before we open our eyes, we can already feel touch.

Research shows that many people may be suffering from a shortage of tactile stimulation, known as touch deprivation.

Touch is calming & trusting, it plays an important role in our emotional well-being. Touch conveys emotion more powerfully than language, it helps us calm down from stress & enhances trust between individuals.

When stressed, touch has a calming effect, more than all the verbal expressions in the world.

Experiencing physical contact plays a vital role in our physical and psychological health.

Physical touch increases levels of dopamine and serotonin, two neurotransmitters that help regulate your mood and relieve stress and anxiety. Dopamine is also known to regulate the pleasure centre in your brain. 

A hug is a non-verbal interaction, a universal form of physical intimacy, in which two people put their arms around one another and hold each other.

Meditation or Mindfulness is awareness; witnessing, relaxing in the moment, in the present.

When we combine the two, it becomes something extraordinary; A powerful, energetic connection allowing our wellbeing to flow through one another. This allows for individuals to let go of chronic tension, negative thought patterns and unprocessed feelings (sadness, anger, unworthiness, etc). The energetic connection produces oxytocin (the "love" hormone), reducing stress and social anxiety, while rebuilding confidence, self-assurance and self-love.

This embrace, especially when held for an extended period of time, increases one's heart coherence, creating a stronger connection to intuition through the heart intelligence. It reinforces feelings of gratitude, compassion, love and appreciation, bringing more peace and joy to one's life and the world.
