Natural Fertility

Acupuncture and herbal medicine may be beneficial for reproductive issues. Conditions like PCOS, endometriosis, blocked fallopian tubes, poor egg quality, low sperm count, poor motility and morphology, and others that impede fertility may be improved with a course of treatment.

Herbs, acupuncture, moxibustion and dietary therapy are the main therapies used to boost fertility. The length of treatment will depend on the severity and chronicity of the condition, as a general rule of thumb 1 years illness will take 1 months continued treatment to address.

Preconception Care

Preconception care should ideally be undertaken three months before you start trying for a baby. This process prepares both you and your partner for the process of conception and improves the likelihood of having a healthy baby. During preconception care Tseu will advise you on some lifestyle changes that are required to improve your chances of conceiving. These changes may include stopping the consumption of alcohol, smoking and recreational drugs along with excessive caffeine use. Dietary changes may also be advised along with vitamin and mineral supplementation. A course of acupuncture and herbal medicine may also be prescribed depending on your health condition.

IVF Support

Chinese Medicine can work alongside Western Medical reproductive therapies like Clomid and IVF to improve the outcome of these treatments.

IVF support protocol:

We follow a standard clinically trialled IVF support protocol for our patients undergoing IVF. A course of acupuncture treatments is given prior to embryo transfer to prepare your body for the procedure. At embryo transfer one treatment of acupuncture will be given at least 24 hours before the transfer and another treatment will be given as soon as possible after the transfer to increase the chances of implantation. Studies by (Margarelli P et al, 2009) have shown that this protocol may increase the success rate by 65%.

Another treatment is given one week after the transfer to support the body in holding the embryo. Treatments will then focus on supporting your pregnancy if the implantation is successful. In the unfortunate event of you needing to complete another cycle of IVF the treatment focus will be on getting your body ready for the next cycle.

Pregnancy Support

Pregnancy is an exciting period in your life but it also places a lot of demands on your body and mind. Chinese Medicine may be used to support the pregnant woman to reduce any undesired pregnancy symptoms, help prevent an early miscarriage, and promote a smooth delivery.

Pregnant women may benefit from Chinese Medicine in the following ways:

First Trimester: reduce nausea and morning sickness, improve energy levels and reduce the risk of an early miscarriage and reduce anxiety levels.

Second Trimester: maintenance to support energy levels and other symptoms if required.

Third Trimester: prepare your body for birth and promote rotation of the baby, relieve aches and pains.

Postnatal Support

Chinese Medicine may help after you have given birth as well. Benefits include: replenishing lost energy and blood, promote healthy lactation, relieve mastitis, address continued bleeding/spotting, and relieve abdominal pain.

Gynaecological Conditions

Menstrual irregularities, painful periods, PMT symptoms and menopausal symptoms may all benefit from Chinese Medicine. The menstrual cycle is a key part of female health and wellbeing, and regulating the cycle is a key strength of Chinese Medicine. Treatments will be customised to treat each phase of your menstrual cycle and may consist of acupuncture, herbal medicine, cupping and moxibustion (herbal stick to warm the abdomen and back).
