How does Transcendental Meditation differ from other Meditation techniques?

Distinguished by the ease with which it is able to be learned and its potent efficacy, a fact that it is validated by scientific research, Transcendental Meditation is a pleasure to practise. It differs from other meditations because there is no concentration or effort necessary - it is a natural state for your mind to me in.

Where does Transcendental Meditation come from?

The TM technique originates from the ancient Vedic tradition of knowledge. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was responsible for reviving the knowledge and experience following its loss for hundreds of years. In an effort to safeguard the technique’s efficacy and preserve the practice for the future, it is taught in a systematic, uniform manner by certified TM teachers globally.

The TM Course consists of a four-day course of instruction, then four months of follow-up classes at your convenience. Also included is a lifetime of follow-up and advanced meetings which you are able to participate in at any TM centre, anywhere in the world.

About your meditation teacher

Heather Lorenzon has been teaching the Transcendental Meditation technique for more than 45 years. Heather, who is based in the Southern Adelaide area, runs programs tailored to the needs of women and children.

Heather says, ‘Women notice benefits right from the first few days when they start to practise Transcendental Meditation.’

My students soon discover how easy it is - they find it hard to believe how easy! Especially if they are familiar with or have been practising other meditation techniques.

There are a multitude of benefits for the Mind, Emotions and Physiology:
  • Women who practice Transcendental Meditation quickly find:
  • They are able to manage stressful situations better
  • They feel more alert
  • They are relaxed and happier within themselves,
  • They experience a better quality of sleep
  • Their relationships with friends and family are enhanced.

Meditation for Children

Any child from the age of 4 years is able to learn the Transcendental Meditation technique. Until they reach the age of 10, they practise what is referred to as a ‘walking’ technique, which is able to be practised while walking or playing.

After the age of 10, children are able to learn the sitting technique. Children who practise TM tell me it leaves them feeling relaxed and that they enjoy doing it. TM is ideal for children with ADHD or ADD, they are able to focus better and experience better organisation of memory.

Meditation for Women's Heart Health

Transcendental Meditation lowers blood pressure and significantly reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Women and Heart Disease

Heart disease is the number one killer of Australian women. Every hour of every day, one Australian woman dies from heart disease— over 100,000 in the last ten years. Women are three times more likely to develop heart disease than breast cancer.

Over one million Australian women have at least four of the risk factors for heart disease. One in five women have high blood pressure and many are unaware that their blood pressure is too high.

Symptoms of heart attack in women can be different to men and include pain in the back, neck, arm or jaw, rather than the sudden chest pain which men often experience.

A Preventable Disease

The good news is, as the Heart Foundation states, that heart disease is preventable. Lifestyle choices including healthy diet and regular exercise are important to reduce the risk factors and maintain good heart health. It is crucial that preventative steps are taken early because heart disease develops over many years prior to a woman’s first diagnosis.

Now Transcendental Meditation has been shown to be very effective in improving women’s heart health.

Transcendental Meditation reduces these risk factors for heart disease:
  • Chronic Stress
  • Smoking
  • Cholesterol
  • Hypertension
  • Insomnia
  • Anxiety & Depression
  • Diabetes
  • Metabolic Syndrome

Transcendental Meditation a simple solution to prevent and reduce heart disease

Transcendental Meditation ® (or TM) is a simple, natural and effortless meditation technique, practised twice a day sitting comfortably with eyes closed.

TM is easy to learn and enjoyable. TM allows your mind and body to gain deep rest, significantly reducing stress and improving overall health.

Women report they feel more happy, calm and positive.

The positive health benefits of practising TM, including significant benefits for heart health, have been demonstrated in over 350 published, peer reviewed studies.

Research in the USA funded by the National Institutes of Health has found Transcendental Meditation:
  • Reduces heart attack and stroke by 48% in people with heart disease.¹
  • Reduces atherosclerosis - the first time a mental technique has been shown to reverse coronary artery disease without any change in diet or lifestyle.²

In 2013, the American Heart Association stated “The Transcendental Meditation technique is the only meditation practice that has been shown to lower blood pressure…all other meditation techniques …are not recommended in clinical practice to lower blood pressure”³

“Transcendental Meditation is associated with statistically significant decreased hypertension and atherosclerosis, clinical improvements in patients with established heart disease, decreased hospitalization rates and improvements in other risk factors including reduced stress and even decreased smoking and cholesterol.”
