About Me

Amber Owen
B Psych (Hons) M Psych (Clin) MAPS

"I am a Clinical Psychologist living in Adelaide with a passion for guiding people to find ways to live more meaningful, fulfilling lives. My goal is to empower, inspire and transform individuals and organisations."

Amber’s approach draws from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness skills, and interventions drawn from best practice evidence-based models for specific issues including interpersonal conflict, post natal adjustment, and post traumatic stress.

Amber was educated in Australia and the United Kingdom, and has worked as a Psychologist in Adelaide, Sydney and London. She has a Master of Psychology (Clinical), Bachelor of Psychology (Honours), and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society.

During her time in the United Kingdom, Amber completed further studies in CBT and was employed by the National Health Service (NHS) Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) program and Reading University. Her training and employment has provided a solid foundation for the treatment of a range of psychological issues including anxiety, depression, stress, and relationship and family issues. She has also developed group therapy programs to assist with post natal adjustment, generalised anxiety and social phobia.

Amber has a passion for empowering women to experience calm, joy, and mindfulness throughout their motherhood journey from conception to birth and beyond. Amber has experience working with women having difficulties adjusting to motherhood, and previously ran Postnatal Adjustment groups whilst working for the National Health Service in London. She facilitates Postnatal Wellbeing groups in Adelaide for women experiencing depression, anxiety and adjustment issues.

Amber is a certified HypnoBirthing® Practitioner and has experienced the births of two beautiful daughters, free from fear and tension, using HypnoBirthing® techniques. She runs HypnoBirthing® (Mongan Method) classes for mums-to-be and their birth companions.

Amber has experience working with children and families from a range of backgrounds and understands the importance of strong attachments and resilience for child wellbeing. She provides group and individual therapy to allow better social integration, emotional literacy, and trauma resolution for children.

Amber provides consulting services to organisations, to improve employee engagement, productivity and satisfaction. In addition, she provides crisis management services following critical incidents and group and individual counselling services following large scale business transfers and redundancies. She also provides a number of training packages to organisations, including Mental Health First Aid training and short workshops on a range of topics including Peer Support and Resilience.

Postnatal Wellbeing Groups

The period after childbirth can be overwhelming. Having a new baby comes with hormonal changes, psychological adjustment to motherhood, and fatigue.

The Postnatal Wellbeing Group is designed for mothers experiencing postnatal depression, anxiety or adjustment disorder, and:

  • Creates an opportunity for mothers to meet in a non-judgmental and supportive environment.

  • Enables mothers to share experiences, feel heard and provide support to others.

  • Allows mothers to develop and extend upon their social network.

Allows mothers to explore different ways of managing postnatal challenges with the assistance of a Clinical Psychologist.

The Postnatal Wellbeing Group program uses the Five Areas model of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), helping mothers to make key changes by examining five important aspects of their lives.

The Postnatal Wellbeing Group runs for ten weeks. Mothers participate in weekly 1½ hour sessions in a group of 6-10.
