What Is Myotherapy?

Myotherapy is a holistic multi-modality manual therapy treatment for acute or chronic musculoskeletal pain and movement restriction. The goal of Myotherapy is to treat pain and restricted movement while identifying and correcting dysfunctional movement patterns that may cause your body to break down.

Myotherapy involves a thorough whole body assessment and integrated therapeutic approach including advanced Remedial Massage, joint mobilisations, stretching, exercise, electrotherapy, nutrition, therapeutic cupping and dry needling.

Myotherapy utilises the latest evidence based manual therapies in keeping with  your specific needs and preferences. Myotherapy is hands-on therapy for soft tissue and joint pain including hip and lower back pain, tendinopathy and bursitis pain, headaches and migraines, nerve pain, RSI, postural and sports injuries.

7 Reasons To Get Myotherapy

1. Relief From Recurring Muscle Tension

There are many reasons muscles become tight and sore.  Accidents and falls, joint dysfunction, incorrect posture, poor footwear, a sedentary lifestyle, a previous injury not corrected, work injuries, incorrect exercise, bad habits and menopause, ongoing health conditions  and nutritional deficiencies are some of the things that contribute to muscle tension. Stress can also contribute to muscle tension, especially in the neck and shoulders but heightened stress levels may cause your muscles to involuntarily contract causing some or all your muscles to become overly tight. Sometimes there are unidentified muscle imbalances and muscle firing issues that result in your muscles continuously getting tight.

2. Resolve Chronic and Acute Muscle & Joint Pain

Myotherapy assists all areas of your body applying therapy for muscles, tendons, soft tissue and joints. Sometimes a chronic pain condition has an underlying joint problem that has not been identified or corrected. Many Myotherapists practice non invasive joint mobilisation and can assist you with joint alignment of the hips, shoulders and ankles, can correct deviated vertebra in the neck and back as well as release ribs than can get locked and cause persistent shoulder and neck pain.

3. Improve Athletic Performance & Mobility

Myotherapy assist with achieving goals and improving your athletic performance and assists with injury prevention by working to balance your strength, stability, mobility and motor control.

4. Recovery From Injury

Research indicates that after an injury the sooner you begin manual therapy the better your recovery can be and a better recovery lessens the risk of re-injury. Sometimes current painful conditions or injuries can be traced back to untreated injuries from many years ago that gradually undermined the body.

5. Achieving Fitness Goals

If you are thinking of starting a fitness program, a fitness assessment is recommended to reduce the risk of injury. You will receive appropriate exercise programs, massage, physical therapy and nutritional advice to maximise your success for achieving your goals.

6. Education and Self Help

Gain new understanding about your body so you can fully participate in creating your own lasting recovery. A Myotherapist provides education and self help suggestions to assist your treatment and improve your well being. Take home simple exercise programs that you can do at home with little or no equipment required. Learn stretching and self mobilisation techniques as well as how to reverse posture related problems.

7. Nutritional Information

Nutrition directly affects our muscle and bone health. A Myotherapist will consider your overall health and provide practical assistance and information to benefit your ongoing recovery.

The goal is to relieve pain and assist you in restoring your body to the right balance of MOBILITY, STABILITY and STRENGTH.
