What is Bowen Therapy?

It is a gentle, cross-fibre manual therapy, sometimes referred to as the HOMEOPATHY of BODYWORKS. Bowen therapy utilises the body`s ability to self-heal by awakening it through application of subtle stimuli (called `moves`) in well defined manner and at anatomically carefully defined points of the body. An average session lasts 45-60minutes, starting with assessment and finishing with health advice that is given to reinforce and enhance the effectiveness of the received therapy.

How it is performed?

Bowen Therapy is beautifully minimalistic therapy, no excessive force, manipulation, rubbing or other harsh stimulation is used. The client is positioned laying on a massage table or seated in a chair. Most moves are performed through clothing, no oils or other substances are used. The treatment is performed in a quiet environment ensuring minimal disruption. These circumstances allow the client to sink into a deep relaxation, which makes the therapy more effective.

Bowen moves are performed slowly by taking a skin slack and then performing well controlled, rolling type of moves over muscles, ligaments, tendons and nerves. There are 2-5 minute long waiting times between moves, allowing the body to process the stimulation it has received. The therapist leaves the room in between the moves to allow full recovery and relaxation. Even though the moves are very light, they are very effective and initiate waves of readjustment, realignment and sets the body onto the path of recovery. The moves usually do not cause any pain or discomfort.

Who is Bowen Therapy for?

It can provide relief for many types of injuries and other health problems, both acute and chronic, and it does so holistically, via the body's innate healing mechanisms. Bowen Technique is appropriate for people of all ages from babies to elderly), in all degrees of health (post surgery, palliative).

It is an ideal therapy for those who want a relaxing therapy, but do not like massage. It is also suited to those clients who are fragile and don`t cope with pain or excessive manipulation, but still want an effective therapy that is aimed to have therapeutic effect to deal with their health issues.
