Frequently asked questions:
How is Clinical Massage different from general massage?
The primary goal of Clinical Massage is the reduction or elimination of a specific muscle/tendon complaint; the primary goal of general massage is relaxation. The Clinical Massage Therapist works with evaluation, treatment, and prevention of muscle/tendon injuries utilizing principles of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and massage therapy techniques.
Does Clinical Massage hurt?
When properly applied to the area of a soft tissue injury, massage will cause some discomfort. However, an experienced therapist will work within your tolerance level to minimize your discomfort while maximizing the benefits. Areas receiving maintenance massage should not experience any discomfort during the massage.
Will I be sore the next day?
Depending upon the severity of your problem, you may experience some local soreness for the next day or two. Proper application of ice therapy will reduce soreness.
What is the best time to get a massage?
When utilized after your longest or most intense workout of the week, massage will enhance your recovery.
How often should I get massage?
If you are dealing with an injury, the usual treatment is 2-4 massages, each spaced 7-10 days apart. For maintenance massage, once every 2-4 weeks. If you are a competitive athlete, this will vary based on your training cycle.
Do I have to be an athlete?
People who dont consider themselves athletes also experience soft tissue injuries or discomfort.
What if I dont have an injury, and just want to relax?
Even top athletes just need to unwind sometimes, and massage can be very relaxing!
