About

MY STORY

Hello, my name is John Wells, and this is a part of my story, I hope it brings change that gives hope. My interest in Muttonbirding and oil developed from early childhood when relatives would supply Muttonbirds and some oil to use over the winter period I remember the taste of the oil vividly and use to hide and try not to cough that would indicate to my parents I had a cold and then a spoon of muttonbird oil was produced to alleviate the potential flu symptom.

When using the oil in later years on several occasions for treating different ailments and observing the results, I was impressed. I am now very passionately committed to exposing the potential health benefits of the flesh when eaten and oil when taken orally or applied in a mixture to help alleviate pain or soreness.

After years of research Ocean Omega products was launched with the five products and we now have fourteen products. Feedback from our loyal stockists and users vindicate my belief in the oil. Today, tomorrow and the future will be dedicated to sustainability of our oceans which sustains life of marine creatures, birds, fish and animals, our oceans are suffering the effects of Global warming over fishing, seismic testing, plastic waste within its environs and oil drilling to name some challenges.

We today are only caretakers for the future generations that follow, and it should be passed on in nothing less of a state that is was when we the older generations inherited the custodial right to look after it.

MOONBIRDS

Mr. John Wells of Flinders Island has been involved with Moonbird harvesting in excess of thirty years. Our mother was supplied Moonbirds by family members seasonally, when available when we were young, the area frequented to gather birds included the south east of Tasmania. Also, occasionally we had to have a small spoon of Moonbird oil especially if we had a cold.

MOONBIRD FLESH
NATURE'S NATURAL SUPERFOOD

Moonbirds are a variety of seabirds belonging to the Petrel family. They are also known as Muttonbirds, Yolla (Aboriginal name), Short Tail Shearwaters and their scientific name Puffinus Tenuirostris. The Moonbird inhabits the shoreline and islands around South Eastern Australia and more specifically around Tasmania and the Bass Strait islands. Juvenile Moonbirds and their by –products have always been a part of the traditional Aboriginal diet and helped sustain and keep them in good health and condition through long hard winters. This cultural practice of gathering Moonbirds as a food resource for use over the winter period is as vitally relevant today as it was yesterday.

MOONBIRD OIL
ANOTHER NATURAL SUPERFOOD

Moonbird oil is manufactured by the juvenile bird when it is fed by the parent bird with regurgitated food collected from our southern oceans. The food collected includes vegetation, algae, minute fish species, zooplankton and copepods. This food resource is rich in antioxidants, minerals, vitamins and other valuable nutrients. Such properties make it seem more like a concentrated food, which gives credibility to the thought that it is one of nature's most concentrated food oil that exists.

Moonbird oil was, and still is taken orally, used dermally as a rub on, or massaged into muscles as a liniment. Moonbird oil is one of nature's least known beneficial foods and is also one of the few oils that does not involve an extraction process that damages vital properties of the oil. It is almost peerless in both nutritive index and pureness.

The oil has been used both indigenously and by non-indigenous people in areas of health and well being. Moonbird oil is produced within the bird’s stomach, it has not been through any other extraction process such as mechanical, chemical, or heating. Therefore the potent nutritive properties are fully conserved to aid a range of health benefits naturally.

OCEAN OMEGA PRODUCTS

Ocean Omega products uses the pure oil from Moonbirds to make a variety of muscular and massage oils, Balms and creams for dermal application. The oil has marine omega 3 acids EPA and DHA which have recognition within the medical world with numerous studies, trails and tests affirming the use of marine omega 3's in the area of cardiovascular conditions and in other areas such as anti – inflammatory use for muscular stiffness, cramps and soreness the marine omega 3 acids are used both orally and dermally.

IMMUNE SYSTEM.

The omega 3 acid constituents of Moonbird oil have properties that are said to help support immune function. Some of the nutritive properties include marine omega 3 acids EPA (AKA) Eicosapentaenoic acid and DHA (AKA) Docosahexaenoic acid also vitamins and minerals such as magnesium – iodine – selenium – iron – zinc and calcium to name some.

RESOURCE SUSTAINABILITY.

The Aboriginal community have always revered Moonbirds and they’re by – products as essential food resources. One of the main cultural activities that the community still engages in, is gathering this resource from mid to late autumn.

Moonbirds and by – products are a vital part of Aboriginal diet throughout the winter period. Moonbirds are also harvested commercially by the community. A few years ago the (C.S.I.R.O) Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization reported that the numbers of Moonbirds being seasonally harvest for both personal and commercial use were well within sustainable limit's. The annual harvest figures reported at that time was between 200,000 and 300,000 birds. The C.S.I.R.O study also concluded that based on the above figures, a threefold increase from the current level would still be well within sustainable limits. Since the C.S.I.R.O study the harvest of Moonbirds by the Aboriginal community has been actually reduced to between 100,000 about 130,000 birds annually.

The commercial operators have decreased the number further to ensure the longevity and wellbeing for both the Moonbirds and the community needs into the future.

More than ever.

Today our oceans need protection for the future generation to enjoy and use to the benefit of all. We need to preserve all our natural wild fisheries and sea life in all forms. There is no place in our oceans for farmed fish anywhere and unless it is a native species. If we have densely populated fish eating or being partly fed from the sea, we a taken native species from our oceans and making fish meal to feed and grow salmon. These actions cannot be sustained for a variety of reasons including. If farmed fish are fed native fish in the form of fish meal etc over a period of time and given that it is a growing industry that is expanding, at some time in the future we will be affecting the food chain as well as salmon. Several varieties of fish could at some time in the future be at risk of low levels of stock, While being farmed in our oceans the potential of by – product and waste material affecting native fish and marine life in a negative way is to big a risk too expose our wild fisheries, birds, mammals and sea life generally whilst we are currently harvesting our wild fisheries sustainably.

OMEGA'S FROM THE SEA'S

The Omega 3 family is found in both land plant life and our oceans. Some forms of plant life from our ocean contain marine Omega 3's. Minute fish species feed on this plant life and in turn get eaten by bigger fish. This cycle continues in the food chain and the level of Omegas 3's accumulates in fish to useful proportions. Fish oil is derived from cold water fish species such as Mackerel - Tuna and salmon to name some, they also contain beneficial amount of marine Omega 3's.

Marine Omega's are also found in birds that predominately feed from the sea. The marine Omega 3's have recognition within medical circles as being the most potent of the omega 3 family. The two marine acids of most importance to human health according to medical research are Eicosapentaenoic acid also known as EPA and Docosahexaenoic acid also known as DHA. The other relative important aspect about these marine omegas 3 acids is they are normal constituents of our cells, for example they are in the brain cells, nerve relay stations , retina's and adrenal glands to name a few.

According to medical research, sources of marine omega 3's are being used to

  1. Help prevent Heart attacks.

  2. Reduce pain associated with Rheumatoid Arthritis

  3. Give relief to skin conditions such as Eczema, Dry skin cream, psoriasis and for skin nutrition.

  4. To aid in reducing blood pressure.

  5. May help mental disorders.

  6. Marine oil can help in boosting our immune system.

The above list is only some of the areas being studied or researched. More disorders or disease's are being added as research and test studies show the benefits of Omega 3.

MUTTONBIRDS

Muttonbirds are harvested sustainably on islands throughout Bass Strait for a seasonal period. The meat from the Muttonbird is regarded as a treasured seasonal food resource, especially by the Aboriginal community. C.S.I.R.O have done an analysis of the meat of the muttonbird and tests have shown it contains marine Omega 3 and valuable nutrients required for good health.

MUTTONBIRD OIL

The oil in the past has been used as a liniment, taken orally for a number of medical conditions, used for animal health + wellbeing both internally and externally. Early European use dates back to 1870's where Muttonbird oil was mixed with almond oil and used as a liniment. These previous uses are still relevant today probably more so.

Thank you for the Eczema Cream I have tried many products for our 2 year old son and have found this to be the best one so far, it keeps it at bay and provides him a relief. Hi John,

Please could we order 6 more pots of Arthritis Cream. We are loving your products. The trial one of aches and pains was very good although not really a lot different to the sports rub. We are now getting people coming in just for the creams.

Hi

I have recently had the opportunity to try your insect repellant. I must have the chemistry that attracts “bugs” of all sorts. I have therefore been using very strong repellants (with some concerns) I have found your product to be excellent in repelling mites and fleas. I will trial it against mosquitoes and flies in the near  future. I wash the insect repellant off after  a few hours  so I do not know yet if it has a any irritation to the skin if left on for longer periods of time. All the best with your future business.

Regards and Thanks,

Zanette Crowden

I Tried your product Arthritis Cream a sample of which was delivered to my workplace Clarence Joint Therapy in Howrah some few weeks ago. I found it to be very kind to my arthritic fingers and was wondering how I go about purchasing a jar of it for myself. You have the Greenstore at Howrah and Lauderdale Larder listed as a retail outlets but both of these shops have been closed for some time.

I would be grateful if you could let me know where to buy it.

Regards,

Jill Ropper

To whom it may concern,

The physiotherapists and massage therapists at West Tamar Physiotherapy have been using Ocean Omegas products exclusively for the last 12 months.  We use them tipically for massage, and as a precursor to Ultrasound Therapy. They have natural healing qualities, including those from Omega 3 & 9 oils, that clients have responded well to.

We have found the products to be both effective in it’s results with clients, and gentle on the skin for continued use during the day. (other products can leave the hands itchy and irritated when used continually). This is due to the natural healing qualities of Ocean Omega products.

Our sales of the products, particularly the Arthritis Cream, have been encouraging. Feedback has been positive from satisfied clients.

We recommend these products to other therapists who are looking for a more natural effective massage lotion.

With regards,

Maggie Mc Kenzie

Hi All,

Just thought I would let you know how wonderful I think your products are. My friend purchased some at the Tasmania Craft Fair the other day and was raving about how terrific it was. Well me being the sceptic, because I have severe osteo arthritis in my hip and usually nothing I try even reaches it to give it relief, tried your products of Sports Balm, not expecting very good results. I was blown away with how fast it worked and how long I had relief for ( approx 4 hours ) which is just not heard of for me. I have just purchased my first of many of your product today. I will be raving about your products far and wide forever. Thank you for giving me the only relief from pain I have had for 13 years.

Kindest Regards,

Natasha  Schultz

During a recent visit to Strachan we visited the Gordon River cruise gift shop where my daughter discovered the sample pots of your Eczema and Arthritis creams. She said I should try the Eczema cream as for many years I have suffered from very itchy ears, especially when under stress, which resulted in broken, scaly skin, even to the point that the skin had thickened. I tried the cream before we ventured on board the cruiser and can honestly say I did not scratch during the whole trip, a fact my daughter later commented on.  We went back to the gift shop but unfortunately they were out of stock of this product. We later found it at the Salamanca Markets and discussed its use with the lovely lady there, she also said that the Arthritis cream would probably help me as I have quite nasty arthritic fingers. I have been using the cream now for about two weeks and there is a very noticeable  improvement not only in the itching but also skin texture, hopefully I have broken the cycle.

I have used all sorts of creams, even steroid creams and was taking anti-histamines each night  to alleviate scratching in my sleep – have not had a tablet for the last 3 nights. I must say I am very impressed. As  I live in NQ would it be possible to purchase the Eczema cream in 100g pots, and could you give me cost of same, if available.

Thanks for your wonderful products.

Regards,

Rosemary Blackley

Dear John

During a holiday in Tasmania we heard that people who take muttonbird oil don’t catch colds, so as I’m in the latter stages of emphysema and therefore it’s important that I don’t suffer from any chest infections, I decided to give it a go. I found that after a time of taking muttonbird oil I not only hadn’t caught a cold but, I had more energy and I was able to walk a little further and do a little more, so both my general health and also my quality of life had improved.

My recent purchase of muttonbird oil arrived safe and sound, thank you for packing it so securely for the trip to Cairns, and thank you for an excellent product.

Dear John

I was rather little disappointed to hear that product Arthritis Oil it’s not longer available to buy. The reason for inquiring about this wonderfully made product is because my elderly parents (from Greece) asked me on the phone a few days ago if there is anything better to relieve the constant pain and suffering associated with Arthritis and rheumatism.
Having used this product and knowing the results of applying your Oil, I know it does work and gives relief to pain. I informed my parents about your little miracle Oil and promised to send them some as soon it becomes available.
John I will Endeavour to help you and I thought by starting with this letter, and to anyone it may concern for what you are trying to do has a lot’s of benefits, does work, and I hope you have it on the market AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Yours sincerely,
Jim Xypteras

To Whom It May Concern:

Over the last two months I have used the dry cream and the Hand and Body Lotion (lavender) from John Wells with his muttonbird base creams. I have found them to be very good, as I have a very sensitive dry skin and I found them to make my skin soft and pliable. I recommend them and hope they can continue and be available to the general public.

To Whom It May Be Helpful

I was born with crickets and other symptoms which developed to serious illnesses through pre-teenage years. Juvenile arthritis was diagnosed early, Reynard’s Syndrome, sometimes blood in sputum from serious bronchitis, very weak heart, great joint swellings, stiffness and terrible pains. Nasty tonsils. Medications over that time did much to seriously damage my alimentary tract.

Early teens I was given muttonbird oil, one tablespoon daily, and soon began to improve in all those areas. At age 18 I had improved amazingly, was able to play tennis, table tennis, ride push-bike, climb mountains, and jog long distances. In following years, I gladly advised other sufferers to use it, for conditions r.e. joints, cardiovascular, and body warming.

Obviously animals benefited too, especially to prevent “bloat” in cows subject to lush clover grazing. Its penetrating ability is seen obvious to those who take it orally, as it will begin to exude from skin on many people and animals.

One famous old blacksmith used the old oil to plunge-temper steel tools. To my knowledge, all who persevered had sensational benefits, from shingles, gout, emphysema, asthma, sarcoid, endocrine, Reynard’s, pneumonia, T.B., tachycardia, and eczema. Unfortunately, the doctors and chemists who appreciated this marvelous oil died out, being replaced by pharmaceutically-seduced practitioners who labeled it old-wives tales, quackery, and unscientific. When we see such little true benefit and such side effects of their rigidity tested, constantly changed alternatives, one wonders at what scientific efficacy really means.

People all over Australia, still search to find a source of the oil. Since SCIRO research has established its superior omega 3 rating, it can no longer be debunked and I am thankful to have lived long enough to see this king of oils being restored to its well deserved position which cannot be overlooked or equaled.

Faithfully,
L.H. Jones
