Why Try Hypnotherapy?

While you only have one mind, it is best understood as being divided up into the following:
  • Conscious Mind (outer consciousness): The part of your mind that is responsible for short term memory, logic, reasoning and voluntary movement.
  • Subconscious Mind (inner consciousness): The part of our mind which is responsible for involuntary actions and regulates our physical body – respiration, adjusting hormone levels, digestion, heart beat etc. The subconscious mind also stores our memories, thoughts and behaviours.
The conscious part of our mind only uses 10% of our mind capacity our subconscious uses 90%.

The Subconscious Mind

The subconscious mind is a powerful tool that influences and directs most of our every day behaviors without us having to consciously ’think about it’. When learning something for the first time, like driving, our conscious mind absorbs the new information and, once we have practiced driving over a period of time, it then becomes a function of our subconscious mind. Habits are formed in the same way.

When people want to make a change, it can sometimes be very difficult to achieve as our subconscious mind controls our behaviour. For example, we consciously know that smoking is an expensive habit and bad for our health, but if the subconscious has its own reasons for wanting to carry on smoking, the subconscious part of our mind will win.

So, how do you access the subconscious mind to create lasting change? This is where hypnosis and hypnotherapy can help.

What Do We Do?

Hypnotherapists use the state of hypnosis to facilitate communication between the conscious and subconscious minds. The conscious (analytical) mind enjoys a break, while your subconscious mind is open and receptive to positive commands and suggestions.

Hypnosis is an altered state of awareness where you feel completely relaxed mentally, physically and emotionally. It is a very natural state which you experience many times throughout the day. It is similar to reading a good book, watching a movie or daydreaming – you experience deep relaxation, while your mind is still alert to your physical sensations and surroundings.

Benefits

One of the many benefits of hypnotherapy is learning simple and effective self-hypnosis techniques from your hypnotherapist. Once you master these techniques and put them into practice, you will then be able to give yourself suggestions and develop skills to be calm and focused in stressful or difficult situations.

Hypnotherapy sessions are conducted in a confidential and relaxing environment. The sessions usually take one hour, however you may need to allow extra time for your first session.
