Ozone is a naturally occurring compound.
The chlorine-like smell in breaking ocean waves? That is Ozone.

Oxygen is a compound named O2, meaning two oxygen atoms together. Ozone is O3, meaning three oxygen atoms combined. On contact with hazards in air and water, the extra oxygen molecule breaks away from the other two, and binds with the hazard in a process called oxidisation, rendering it harmless, and releasing pure oxygen as the by product.
