About Paul

Paul developed an active interest in massage after sustaining a football injury in his early twenties. He then later went on to become the massage therapist for the whole team.

Thirty years and four football clubs later Paul is a highly qualified Remedial Massage Therapist specialising in sports, remedial and lymphatic drainage techniques.

Paul works deeply to soothe and restore muscles, tendons and ligaments. His manual lymphatic drainage technique uses gentle, targeted strokes around lymph node zones to reactivate the body’s lymphatic drainage system.

“When the lymphatic system becomes clogged, you end up with stagnancy or ’backwater’ which sets up conditions for a whole range of illnesses” says Paul.

For example, manual lymphatic drainage alleviates fluid build-up in the body caused by injury (sprained ankle), wounds (burns), surgery (post-operative swelling from hip or knee replacement) or chronic illness (cancer) as well as various conditions brought on by a depleted immune system (arthritis, stress).

The Lymphatic System, with its pathways, nodes, associated organ and tissue, is part of the body’s circulatory system.

It plays an important role in our health and immunity by cleaning the body tissues of excess fluid and waste products.

The lymphatic system may become sluggish due to a build up of proteins resulting from surgery, injury, irradiation, poor diet or tight clothing which in turn dramatically reduces the ability of the limb to be drained and lymphoedema can result.

The lymphatic system is very forgiving. If there is early intervention to open alternate pathways, reducing protein build up, it is possible to postpone or even stop lymphoedema from developing.

LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE

The aim of lymphatic therapy is to increase the flow of lymphatic fluid to reduce oedema (swelling), reduce pain and discomfort and improve tissue health.

Lymphatic drainage uses very light hand movements moving long lymphatic pathways with special attention paid to clearing the lymph nodes.

In addition to the manual drainage Paul incorporates education about the lymphatic system, maintaining good skin quality and the benefits of gentle movement to minimize the progression of lymphoedema.

Benefits of lymphatic drainage massage include better sleep, greater energy levels, weight reduction, pain reduction and improved skin quality.
